Portable Tail?

#1 Post by dasfx »

Hey all,
I've been looking for a portable tail program. I've been using mTail (http://ophilipp.free.fr/op_tail.htm) although I know it isn't portable in the true sense. Any suggestions? Thanks.

thought I would update my own post. This one took a while to find:

http://tail.amadis.sytes.net/

Thought it might be useful for others.

This is a VB app (requires MSVBVM50.DLL).

I am a little reluctant to add this app because it does not appear to work on Win2K, only WinXP. I suspect I may have to follow the "regsvr32 richtx32.ocx" steps described under "Installation", but I lost interest. :D For an app like this, I feel it is kind of sucky that it only runs on XP out-of-the-box.

However, it does under XP and is portable (stores settings in INI), so I am starting a poll here. If I can get more than 10 votes and over 70% says "Yes", I will add it to the database. Otherwise, let's just leave it in the forum.

[This topic has been moved from "Portable Freeware Disucssion"]

I think I screwed up on the polls for this one. The number of days the poll runs must be relative to the date of the first message of the topic, otherwise it will end really quickly!

For fairness' sake, I have restarted the poll. It should end 10 days from today.

Yarg! Didn't know about that. Anyway, the app is very clunky aside from that, and really doesn't come highly recommended (not from me anyway). I have to admit that I still cheat and use http://tailforwin32.sourceforge.net/ or another that isn't strictly portable.

Old thread update:

Since this was posted, some more Tail options have come up, most recently from Baas:
I could swear I saw a cross-platform tail tool somewhere but ... not sure where that went.
