Are 1000 programs enough to promote SPS as a new standard?
Hello to everyone. In my previous post published at http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=21891 I suggested to consider SyMenu as the definitive launcher for all the portable programs. This ambitious idea comes from my belief in the power of the SPS, which is the documentat...

Re: Which portable launcher lets you search in description?
Thanks for your information.
SyMenu fills the item description with the default program one but you are free to change it in any way you like.
Your modified description will be never altered, not even after a program update.

Re: Which portable launcher lets you search in description?
I know that this topic is quite old but starting from yesterday SyMenu is able to search among description too. You can specify more than one word or portion of word, the search engine works in AND mode. You can choose your default search mode (only program name, program name and description) and ev...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
I would like to update this thread to let you know where we are with the SyMenu and the SPS thing. On Saturday I launched the version 5.00 of my program. The version change is due to a new feature I implemented in this period that pushes more and more SyMenu to a new level of customization. Now you ...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
Ok I finally understood. The problem was that I haven't looked into your script yet but you haven't read my documentation too :D The only way to get the correct url to download the last SPS suite is through the web service and not through the web page. The web page has changed, is changing and will ...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
Sadly, after the latest site changes, my updater script (http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=73087#p73087) no longer works. Currently, the live link to the ZIPed updates package is gone (although it's still referred from http://www.ugmfree.it/Services/SymenuSPS.asmx/GetSyMenuSuit...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
I understand that Symenu is your app and you can do things the way you think is the best. Well I better define my role as the guy that keep everything consistent :D SyMenu is surely my app but it is the community app too. Without the suggestions that daily I receive from the most involved users the...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
The reply is yes if you are a normal user but you always can hack the system. This is not related to the SPS by itself but to the way SyMenu manages its own SPS. I do an example related to a program available in the SyMenu suite only as a school exercise, but the work you have to do is so huge that ...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
I'm looking forward to the future of SyMenu ;) And the future is here again. I've just released a new version for SyMenu (4.11) and the corresponding version for SPS Builder (1.07). Let's see the new features of each one. SyMenu SyMenu has gained a really useful and strongly requested feature, the ...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
I realise it's early stages, but do you plan on making this function automated in the future? Updating apps one by one is far superior than doing it the traditional way, but if you have many apps in the list it's becomes laborious. Would it be difficult to implement auto-update procedure? As soon a...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
I'm still none the wiser as to how this works! Are you saying that an app won't show updates unless you have a new SPS file for that app that tells SyMenu there's an update? Exactly. If an app has not a built in updating system and it is outdated, it works the same but it doesn't know if itself is ...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
:) We definitely have different thoughts. As such, I'm okay with open projects like theirs having a tether to a "home" or launcher program. In other words, they're allowed a certain level of self-promotion. Self-promotion shouldn't be closure. Self-promotion is when you open a program and ...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
Hi webfork. If PAF was an open standard it should be possible to install it silently but this feature has been removed a long time ago. I can't help but think you're confusing "open" with merely inconvenient to your current goals. PAF format is yours but no one can say that your format is ...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
Do you plan on adding the PortableApps.com catalogue? If so I can make a start on that if you like. I've already added some PAF programs to the SyMenu suite. You can recognize them because the app publisher field is filled with the original author name along with PortableApps.com. I don't remember ...

Re: Finally a launcher for all portable programs?
So, the SPS Builder is really meant for developers, is that what what you're saying? Not at all. SPSBuilder is for anyone who wants to take charge of one or more programs for SyMenu suite. My swedish friend Åke is not a developer but, as you can see from the credits of his SPSs, he has become the m...
