I recently came across an article an article that talked about a program called Google Map Saver (GSM). GSM is freeware, (claimed to be) portable, and it allows the user to download big Google Maps directly on to their computer as image files (png, targa, bmp).

I'm sorry - I posted that there was an update to BitPim, as there was, but it appears to NOT BE PORTABLE. After difficulties using UniExtractor 1.5, I "installed" it in Sandboxie and copied the files I assumed would be the same as would be extracted by the method mentioned in the real post...
