EqualiserAPO (& Peace GUI) - system-wide equaliser

#1 Post by shnbwmn »

EqualiserAPO (EQAPO): https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/
Peace GUI: https://sourceforge.net/projects/peace- ... extension/
Room Equaliser Wizard (REW): http://www.roomeqwizard.com/
EQAPO author wrote:Equalizer APO is a parametric / graphic equalizer for Windows.
It is implemented as an Audio Processing Object (APO) for the system effect infrastructure introduced with Windows Vista.
Equalizer APO is best used in conjunction with Room EQ Wizard, because it can read its filter text file format.
Peace GUI author wrote:Peace is a graphical user interface for Equalizer APO ...
Your equalizer configuration (audio preset) can be saved and activated by 1 click, hotkey, tray or desktop shotcut. Install by moving downloaded Peace.exe to 'config' folder of Equalizer APO ...

Note: Your virus scanner can detect a virus in Peace.exe. This is a false positive, more info on the forum.

Notes:
  • EQAPO obviously has to be installed because it interacts directly with the sound drivers (and you'll need to reboot).
  • However, Peace is portable (settings written to peace.ini in EqualiserAPO\config).
  • Configurations are also "portable," in that they are written to PEACE files (plain text, see below) in the same directory.
  • All configurations (EQAPO and Peace) are based on simple text input. Eg, for crossfeed:

    Code: Select all

    Copy: L2=0.5*L+0.5*R
    Copy: R2=0.5*R+0.5*L
    Copy: L=L2
    Copy: R=R2
  • Crossfeed and other filters (eg, delay, reverse, high/low-pass, echo, etc) are accessible under "Commands" (in the Peace GUI).
  • REW (Java-based, probably not portable) is optional, and mostly for people listening via speakers. I use Peace + headphones so have never had use for REW.
  • I found this because I was looking for a way to have crossfeed when watching YouTube videos, or with audio players that don't have such a filter.
    • It's useful for headphone users (like me) who experience fatigue from the sharpness of most stereo music/sound.
    • Interesting info on Meier crossfeed. The bottom of that page has some audio samples.

I use EqualizerAPO + Peace and can attest it's pretty good.

Old thread update: this looks like it's still in development with a release last year and a very warm MUO review (with the #1 spot):
Our first recommendation is Equalizer APO. It's the most powerful, customizable, and full-featured free sound equalizer that you'll find. The app operates as an Audio Processing Object (APO), so if your audio uses APIs like ASIO or WASAPI, it will not work.

Equalizer APO's best features include an unlimited number of filters, multi-channel use, support for 3D surround sound, and very low CPU usage. You can also create multiple profiles (perhaps for your external speakers and your headphones) and hop between them in a flash.

The big drawback is the lack of a graphical user interface (GUI). You need to edit the filters in a TXT file. Thankfully, several third-party GUIs are available to download, and we recommend Peace Equalizer.

Same here. My external speakers are great for listening to music, but not for video conferencing. For Zoom meetings I need my sound less cavernous and more speech-focused. After googling for a solution, this equalizer came up. I've been using it with the Peace GUI and I am very happy with it.
