DiffDaff

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

DiffDaff

#1 Post by JohnW »

I have been using DiffDaff for file comparisons and it occurred to me that it might well be portable.

The app allows you to compare 2 files/folders/web pages and shows the differences (identical, changed, deleted, added -lines)

It's available from ... http://www.diffdaff.com/overview.htm

I tested it against Regshot. It needs an expert's opinion.
Frankly there were a lot of Registry changes but they looked to me to be transient anyway.

Hi John,

you are right: I tested it Nd the values are not important.

It seems to require the IE engine to work... actually it caused few problems on my system, but maybe it depends how I extracted it.

Thanks Aleph
That's what I thought but I needed an expert's opinion.
As for IE well I would think most users will have this even if it's not their preferred browser

As you will be aware there are other tools of this nature ...

WinDiff is the classic - a Microsoft app available from http://www.grigsoft.com/download-windiff.htm
For the same reason I THINK it's portable.
When I used to run it I ran it with a front-end called RunWinDiff.
This is available from http://www.codeproject.com/tools/runwindiff.asp (BTW free registration to this interesting site)

Other such utilities from the codeproject site include ...
V-Diff :http://www.codeproject.com/cpp/vdiff.asp and
RG-Diff :http://www.codeproject.com/tools/rgdiff.asp
Again probably portable(?!)

Finally there is another program WinMerge (Open Source) available from ...
http://winmerge.org/
This compares files AND merges them. At first I thought this would be non-portable as it included Registry files. However I now think these are only used if one wishes to use the Shell add-on.

Re: DiffDaff - compare files, folders, and web pages

Old thread update:

DiffDaff site offline, here's the archive.org link: https://web.archive.org/web/20190903034 ... erview.htm
Download: https://web.archive.org/web/20160307192 ... ffdaff.exe (SHA256: BFBE98DBE2F03484959D18DF9AD01A2D72F8DCC8170DBE3DF46EAA7DD3D604F1)

---

Looks to be last updated back in 2010. I like how it compares files, folders, and web pages, but it looks to lean on a nice web page output that doesn't seem to work with modern browsers.

Image

Cons:
* Doesn't support drag-and-drop (at least in Win7)
* Webpage out put search input doesn't seem to work
