RegistryViewer 1.2

#1 Post by Gaijin »

RegistryViewer is a forensic tool to display and search in raw NT-5 Registry files (SYSTEM, SOFTWARE, SAM, NTUSER.DAT, SECURITY, USERDIFF and DEFAULT).

RegistryViewer can not open the Registry from a running system.

The application is available in English, German, Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese.

Product page, Download and Screenshot: http://www.gaijin.at/dlregview.php

In this version command line parameters for file name are supported.

I have made a shortcut in the "Send To" menu of my WinXpHomeSp3 and added the "/F" parameter so i could right click a reg hive file and automaticaly open it, but all i get is this:

I can't reproduce this, here it works fine. The selected file is opened (in the TreeView) and it is shown in the "Open registry files" dialog too.

Possible you use a file, that is not a valid registry file.

Previously i've tried to open the RegHive file created by Sandboxie (it is not damaged in any way as it opens fine in Windows Registry Recovery).
Then i've exported as .hive file my "HKLM/Software" registry branch and it opens ok with RegistryViewer.
So i do not understand why but RegHive file created by Sandboxie cannot be oppened by RegistryViewer (although your application works fine). :(

I forgot to mention that the reghive file created by sandboxie opens fine in RegistryViewer if i use File/Open Registry File command and browse for it ! Only the "SendTo" method doesn't work.

At least your results can be reproduced joby_toss.
I have found the same problem.
I've added regview to the context menu of all unknown files and added the /F switch.
On Sandboxies regfiles I'm getting the same screen as you.

It saves two mouseclicks even here though so it's all good :P

I remembered about my issue with RegistryViewer and Sandboxie's reg hive while reading the newer post by Ennovy, and I only have this to say: Thank's God for PowerPro (it makes an workaround possible) :) !

I added "regview" to the keywords of the Registry Viewer entry. Now Registry Viewer will show up if you search for "regview".
