The portable freeware orphanage
The portable freeware orphanage
There are a bunch of perfectly able portable freeware manifestations that for one reason or other have been abandoned, lost or otherwise lack any reputable source from in the Internet at large. Some of them are even present in TPFC's database, but the original poster is nowhere to be found. This topic is meant to provide an easy way to deal with such cases.
The present first post will index further ones in the topic, each one devoted to one (and only one, please) such orphan program. Of course my hope is that, in time, this can become a repository of hard to find information, such as download sources, developers, and usage tips. Please, feel free to add your own entries and I'll try to keep this post updated.
Note: anyone looking for an old program should also take a look at the excellent source list at viewtopic.php?t=25185.

X-Pass v2.2
X-Pass has no webpage anymore but the (tiny) program states it was coded by Weird (giving it's email adress as weird173[at]yahoo.com).
Last X-Pass known version is v2.2 and user Kea has contributed a download link in the entry's comments (see www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=309#comment30292).
Virustotal gives some high level warnings for X-Pass files ("29/67", see below), but I reckon that given the nature of the program and the content of some of those warnings (e.g., ESET: "Win32/PSWTool.XPass.A potentially unsafe") they're fairly safe to ignore.
'xpass.exe': https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/25d1e ... /detection
'xpass.dll': https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/dc44e ... /detection

Thanks for contributing, smaragdus.
Everyone should keep in mind that even programs that don't have a database entry at TPFC are still eligible to be listed here.

Re: DS Software enters the orphanage...
billon recently informed us (viewtopic.php?p=96746#p96746) of the passing of DS Software homepage, where a load of very tiny but excellent freeware resided (mostly storage and encryption oriented).
Luckily, the Wayback Machine has worked it's magic and DS Software freeware page (and most downloads) is still available at:

Re: The portable freeware orphanage
Thanks, juverax. OP edited to link to your post.
Re: The portable freeware orphanage
... the download link on https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=645 has still to be fixed ...
Re: X-Pass v2.2
Sadly, Kea's alternative download link no longer works and I was unable to find a download at the Web Archive. So, if you know of any active source, please post it here.Midas wrote: ↑Last X-Pass known version is v2.2 and user Kea has contributed a download link in the entry's comments (see www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=309#comment30292).
(FYI, I did find a X-Pass mention at usefulhandysoftware.wordpress.com/2016/07/10/x-pass/ but the download link is dead.)
Re: The portable freeware orphanage
I found X-Pass v.2.2 at: https://link-4share.com/download/5lg0qg ... 2_rar.html
I could open the RAR and read a couple of text files (the archive is valid! Great!)
I did not load the files to virustotal
I did not run the file
'twas a pain to download the file from 4share .... I had to create a "4share account" .... If you don't want to go thru this ordeal .... I could I email it to s.o. (Midas? Eh?) who would know (maybe?) how to share it with the TPFC community.
