Old thread update: Looks like a company came up with a cloud service sync go-between that does encryption and claims portability.
I'm less than thrilled with the way it doesn't encrypt file names, but it does work between two devices and certainly a dramatically more secure option than standard cloud service options. At least where I live you can unlock basically everything for 50/yr: https://www.boxcryptor.com/en/pricing/
Just like to add one more tool for cloud storage encryption: https://nordlocker.com/download/
Haven't tried it by myself yet, but received an email from my vpn provider that they have released a new product.

Good suggestion - that looks pretty solid and Nord has a good reputation. The PCMag review finds some issues around lacking 2FA and file wipe, but those are far from deal breakers. 5 gigs for free with sharing functions is nothing to sneeze at.
