A program to 'Create Folder' from Filename or Foldername ...
A program to 'Create Folder' from Filename or Foldername ...
Program Wish List:
I would like a program that does the following:
I do a lot of downloads from the web, mostly *.ZIPs.
Typically what I do is download file (program.zip).
Create a Folder named "program-zip".
Copy "program.zip" into "program-zip Folder"
I would like a program where I can Right-Click on a File or Folder,
and up comes a Right-Click-Menu,
with an option named "Create Folder From".
When I click on "Create Folder From",
its program takes the filename,
if the filename looks like this: FileName.zip,
the program creates a Folder named FileName-zip.
General rule:
If the Filename or Foldername contains a 'Blank and/or Period',
the program replaces the 'Blank and/or Period' with a Dash ( - ).
"My Folder " = "My-Folder", and "My Program.*" = "My-Program-*" .
Is there such a program already written?
The problem I see is that
to give program 'Right-Click-Menu' capability would require a change to Registry. And then program would not be portable?
Any ideas on how else to do this?
Thanks...vm

This might do the trick:

Works with Win7 too.

It is one of the features supported by DropIt
http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1531
And if you need help to use it or maybe you would like a new feature implemented, you can discuss here:

Once again my win7-HomePremium is weirder than yours.
When I try it, I get the following:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Please install a program, or if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel"
It was a while back, I think I upgraded from Vista to win7.
Maybe thats why my win7 isn't that great.
Thanks..vm

Re: A program to 'Create Folder' from Filename or Foldername
DropIt is also very good tool. However, regarding files 2 folders here is another link:
http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-ti ... text-menu/
Initially, it was not compatible with Win7, but it was updated in late 2011. I use it on a Win7 64bit machine and it works great just in case, you want to give it a spin again.

Re: A program to 'Create Folder' from Filename or Foldername
Thanks LeonardB and I am Bass:
I have been trying to get to Files2Folder working with win7homePremium64 for a couple of days now.
My version of win7 seems to be messed up,
because quite often programs that work for other win764 systems don't work on mine.
I am in contact with the author though,
I Post when/if I get it working.
Thanks...vm

Old thread update: there's been some minor but welcome updates to the Files2Folder program over the past year http://skwire.dcmembers.com/apps/files_ ... ngelog.txtI am Baas wrote:Files 2 Folder

Files 2 Folder doesn't have its own topic here at TPFC, so I think this is the best place to post about it and this little bug that bugs me every now and then.
Files 2 Folder doesn't seem to recognize shell folders like the "Recycle Bin" are essentially different so it still attaches itself to their context menu and when that gets invoked you get nothing but an error.
It's no biggie but an irksome papercut nonetheless...
