New TPFC website design by tproli is now live!
Re: New TPFC website design by tproli is now live!
Yea ok thanks for all answers
Re: New TPFC website design by tproli is now live!
I'm adding a cookie with name "showDetails" and value of "true" or "false". If you do it with php then it should work "out of the box".Let's say I add a new detailed search option that lets the user select compact or fullview, how do I render the page in compact view programmatically via CSS?
I don't think there's any important catch but I'm not a cookie expert (unlike my mother-in-law ).Also, I am thinking of making certain search options such as full/compact view and page size (5/10/25 etc.) cookie-based instead of CGI paramater based. Any potential concerns?

Yes it worked up to a point ........Try ctrl+F5 in IE9, that helped others too.
Then IE9 crashed!
Wouldn't it be better to design a site that doesn't require all these "so called fixes"
Re: New TPFC website design by tproli is now live!
Yes, that is a know bug, will be fixed soon.

Lists in descriptions (example) don't have bullets or indentation.

Don't seemed to be fixed yet. I have updated with the latest style.css. Anything else I need to update?tproli wrote:Thanks, fixed. (invisible until Andrew's update)

List bullets are fixed (again). I guess it was a victim of a dropbox sync.

Updated. Thanks!
Re: New TPFC website design by tproli is now live!
I know I didn't give much input on the early designs so this may be a little late to suggest. Anyway:
Order of attributes
Order of attributes
- I recommend putting the extract instructions at the bottom of the entry and supported operating systems to the top. The reason is primarily because of where Windows is right now: there's a fairly even split between WinXP and 7. Users who visit any site are immediately going to want to know if it's incompatible with their machine. After that, information for users who only want stealth or those seeking an favorable license (Can I use this at work? Is it open?) can further decide if this is workable. Finally, once you've decided you want it, the instructions tell you how to make it happen.
- Was thinking we could go a little more minimalistic here:
- [Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8]
- Win [95 / 98 / ME / NT / 2K / XP / Vista / 7 / 8]
I also wouldn't mind seeing "WINE" on that list, as we now have quite a few programs that are compatible. I'll modify any entries that list it in the description to say something like "WINE compatibility note" to avoid redundancy.
Re: New TPFC website design by tproli is now live!
Continuing with the issue raised by webfork, there are some applications in the database (like the recently updated Cathy) that no longer support Win XP without SP or with SP1, but with SP2 or SP3 and above.
Since this information is usually hidden in the changelogs, do you think it would be worthwhile to include the ability to edit the System Requirements to make visible the need for a particular service pack?

Done!
Don't think I care much for the minimalistic version, but I did implement the shortened to "WinAll" suggestion.webfork wrote:Win [95 / 98 / ME / NT / 2K / XP / Vista / 7 / 8]
Wine support added.webfork wrote:I also wouldn't mind seeing "WINE" on that list, as we now have quite a few programs that are compatible. I'll modify any entries that list it in the description to say something like "WINE compatibility note" to avoid redundancy.
Why is anyone running Windows without the latest service pack?! Don't we have enough zombie machines around?!lautrepay wrote:Continuing with the issue raised by webfork, there are some applications in the database (like the recently updated Cathy) that no longer support Win XP without SP or with SP1, but with SP2 or SP3 and above.

This little bug still exists:

The right bracket should be removed from each entry.
