Iperius Backup allows you to backup to any mass storage device, such as NAS, external USB hard drives, RDX drives, and networked computers. It has comprehensive scheduling and e-mail sending functions. It supports zip compression with no size limit, incremental backup, network authentication and the execution of external scripts and programs.

The current version of Iperius Backup- 4.6.3, looks very different from the image provided by I am Baas- it features a dull, flat, monochrome interface:

Limitations according to Softpedia:
LIMITATIONS IN THE UNREGISTERED VERSION
  • Cannot perform Cloud or FTP Backup
  • Cannot password protect the configuration
  • Cannot copy NTFS permissions
  • Synchronization with old file deletion is disabled
  • Disk Image - Disaster Recovery feature is disabled
  • Cannot be run as service
  • Cannot open file backup (VSS)
  • Cannot be interfaced with the Web Console or Iperius Online Storage
  • Cannot Tape Backup
  • Cannot backup and restore databases
  • Cannot backup VMware ESXi virtual machines
Synchronization with old file deletion is disabled and Disk Image - Disaster Recovery feature is disabled give it the characteristics of a demo, at least for me. By the way it still seems to be portable- IperiusConfig.ini and IperiusAccounts.ini files plus Jobs and Logs sub-folders in program folder.

Edit
Iperius Backup has a simple but nice built-in FTP client:

Synchronization with old file deletion is disabled
I can understand some of the other listed limits like the VMware and tape backup limitations, but excluding sync+delete is out of step with almost every other free backup/sync programs I've tested here on the site. Unless this program has some other great extras, I can't see why you'd use this over any one of our existing sync programs.

At a second glance the GUI doesn't look that bad to me but Synchronization with old file deletion is absolutely essential indeed.

Compression, running of external scripts, advanced filters

Comparison of free vs. other versions: https://www.iperiusbackup.com/backup-so ... px#compare which basically says no cloud, drive clone, recovery disk, and FTP.

Currently at version 7.8.2 (Changelog: https://www.iperiusbackup.com/news.aspx)
Tested: not portable

The setup, extracted with InnoEx (it's a Inno Setup build), if launched shows these issues:
Program writes on:
1. registry: HKLM\Software\Iperius Backup
2. system: it writes in %ProgramData% the subfolder 'Iperius Backup' that contains some program settings
3. system: program suggest to add PATH variable that point to folder where is the executable (Iperius.exe)
4. if You use yaP, the folder 'App' contains new folders and files:
--> new folders: Jobs, Logs
--> new files: IperiusAccount.ini and IperiusConfig.ini

Here is an early (imperfect) version of the yaP launcher: suggestions are welcome. :roll:

Code: Select all

; configuration file for yaP v0.7.1.6 (http://rolandtoth.hu/yaP/)
; application name: Iperius Backup
; version: 7.8.2
; website: https://www.iperiusbackup.it/
; direct download 32 bit: https://www.iperiusbackup.it/software-backup-free.aspx

[GENERAL]
application = App\Iperius.exe :: App\IperiusX64.exe
; commandline =
; workdir =

[BEFORE]
regkey = HKLM\Software\Iperius Backup :: {YAPROOT}\App\settings\iperius.reg
->dir = {YAPROOT}\App\data\IperiusBackup :: %ProgramData%\IperiusBackup
; dir = %Appdata%\Dir
; file = %Appdata%\Dir\File.ini

[AFTER]
<-dir = {YAPROOT}\App\data\IperiusBackup :: %ProgramData%\IperiusBackup :: move
; -dir = %Appdata%\Dir :: ifempty
; -file = %Appdata%\File*
.......
b.t.w.
The 'App' subfolder contains another two subfolders:
- \data\IperiusBackup (to handle the first launch)
- \settings

Remember: if You use 64 bit version of yaP launcher, You must rename the program in 'App' as IperiusX64.exe.

Tested version 7.9.6: portable (settings saved in app's folder), not stealth (no reg entries, but temp folders left behind).

Download page: https://www.iperiusbackup.com/software-backup-free.aspx

TPFC database entry: https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2503

Note: I voted because it is portable, but the free version lacks many features.
