Other WAMP Servers

We currently have XAMPP, The Uniform Server and USB Webserver listed in TPFC.

But, there are others like:

- UwAmp - http://www.uwamp.com/ (uncompressed filesize is 252MB)
- Vertrigo - http://vertrigo.sourceforge.net/ (untested)

Update - These appear to be no longer in development:
- Z-WAMP - http://zwamp.sourceforge.net/
- SecureWAMP - http://securewamp.org/en/ (By the makers of SRware Iron)

Thought I'd mention them as I was doing some WAMP testing earlier today and updating a few entries in TPFC.

Might list them in TPFC in the future if someone doesn't beat me to it!

If you have some others, feel free to mention them here.

I really think this is the future of applications: running some kind of webserver background locally and letting you run web stuff locally, making the web browser the only real interface and able to be run on another computer, across the network, or across the Internet.

The thing that I think needs to happen first is a very simple, secure, and stable, platform set that works like jPortable to enable programs on any platform. We're talking drag-and-drop here. My work with webservers in the past to enable web programs has involved a lot of extra tweaking work but anybody that can put something like this together would have a huge number of great applications. I can't count how many small, cool programs I've seen on SourceForge built just for webservers that are waiting for something like this to come along.

I bring this up because the variety of WAMP tools is certainly great, but none of them really enabled me to do things without some understanding of Apache.

Status update: all the above, as well as a couple more, are still in TPFC's database (check http://www.portablefreeware.com/?sc=125).

All the above still available, too. Plus, here's additional references from TPFC's forums:

If a WNMP variation is acceptable too, then please vote for viewtopic.php?t=23420 so it'll be in the database too.

UwAmp, still being developed, has come a long way and deserves another look:

It's been my Wamp server of choice for awhile now. The internal PHP updater doesn't work, but it's super easy to update PHP versions. Same with MySQL.

Nice. Tried UwAmp_3.0.2 and it works on XP. I've been looking for a substitute for Uniform Server after it stopped support for XP.

Same here. I'm still using this because it's easy to internally update PHP and MySQL yourself.

However, I don't think it is being updated any more. One annoying thing about UwAmp is the system tray process that eats up CPU. You can close this process and the server will still work though.
