Everything Video Editor

Even the dedicated VideoHelp.com (http://www.videohelp.com/software) lists mostly video cutters and such as portable, and the same problem affects the closest TPFC database category ("Video - Processing"), so a post is in order as a memo for further research (contributions welcome!)...

Relevant entries from around TPFC forums:

Video editing tools from TPFC's database:

Related other untested freeware:

Of course this preliminary list must mention a tool that's both free and portable, but works only in command line mode:

Finally, a note that I once nurtured high hopes for VLMC (http://www.videolan.org/vlmc/), a VLC associated editor, but the project seems to have gone nowhere. :(

So that's it for now.

Thanks for this list, Midas. There is also Island Boy's Cut & Paste Free video editing software list at viewtopic.php?p=13738#p13738

Good list, thanks for doing that.

Additionally: Blender.  Although it's a 3D editor, it includes a video editing function as well.  I've been meaning to test it out for months but keep getting delayed.

I would just like to point out that Natron and Wax are compositing applications rather than pure video editors. Sure, one could do some editing in them, but the interface (particularly Natrons) is geared towards people who are familiar with Nuke, a high-end compositing solution. Another thing: I installed Wax a while ago on my computer (before I knew about portable software, mind you) and, long story short, had to reinstall the whole OS. I'm not sure if it contains a virus, or if that was something else on my computer, but I'm pretty certain it was Wax's fault. Perhaps this is avoided by uniextracting it from it's installer, but I for one don't want to ever touch that file again.

For a moment there I thought the author of Everything had developed a video editor :o

I've done some video work over time but never heard of that so I looked it up:
A video composite occurs when you do something to your video that combines two or more streams of video so that they appear simultaneously as a new single image.

Good to know. It's one of the reason I run everything under VMware but yeah I'd rather just not deal with it.

While the definition you found is not wrong, it is really broad. The average Joe thinks of video editing as cutting, splitting, splicing, etc, whereas compositing is about placing 3d character renders into a movie scene, greenscreening actors into a CG environment, etc. Perhaps this video by Industrial Light and Magic (one of the best in the business) can help explain better: Behind the Magic: The Visual Effects of "The Avengers"

So basically if you do include it, it should perhaps be categorised as an advanced editor or something like that.

Not really editor related, but related technical implications: SmoothVideo Project (SVP) has freeware to simulate so-called "soap opera effect"...
Plus another two freeware video editors, none portable:

ffmpeg v3.0 released (announcement at http://www.ffmpeg.org/download.html#release_3.0).

Also, a Softpedia article covering this release was published to http://news.softpedia.com/news/ffmpeg-3 ... 0451.shtml.

BTW, an OpenShot Video Editor topic has been opened at http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... hp?t=22515.

Moreover, VidCoder, an advanced Handbrake based DotNET ripping tool, is at http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... hp?t=20645.

Well, this is useful topics. Still playing around with the codec in a proto software. No crash so far. Lots of effort I guess put in this new version. So? I am happy, :D

Edited: ffmpeg is to my knowledge one of the best encoder/decoder for video playback, just a pity I could not use it in my own code before this version.
