Site bug?

As many times as I've posted to PFW, I wasn't exactly sure where to put this but I think I found a bug.

Setup
WinXP SP3, Firefox 3.6.6

Steps

1. search for "dll", you get this screen:

http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.p ... l&m=Search

2. Scroll down to the last entry "RegDLLView" and you'll see

Code: Select all

64-bit version is available for dllview-x64.zip" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank">download"

...which is obviously broken HTML.

Expected Results: Should look like official entry: http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1805

Workaround: Click on "Permalink"

The same happens with the Opera entry: http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.p ... a&m=Search and again the workaround is click on the entry icon to get the permalink.

Tested on Opera V10.60. (So it's not just a Firefox problem.)

I would have posted this probably in the "News & Announcements" under the sub-forum of "Edit function implemented", since it's closely related.

Thanks guinness.

Found another case. http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.p ... a&m=Search

Oddly, the HTML doesn't break when linking to Filezilla Portable, but does break when linking to the old version of the software. What an odd bug.

May have found one more:

When I did a search for "Falcon's Eye" in the search box, it didn't come up with anything. When I searched on google for the same phrase, it came up.

I'm guessing its treating the apostrophe as an operator of some kind.

Same for "Ghost-It!" with or without the "!"

Tested -- works great. Thanks for fixing that.

I may have found one other problem along similar lines. In Firefox on OS X, its showing some HTML tags.

1. Click this URL: http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.p ... r&m=Search
2. The following shows up in the browser title:

Code: Select all

The Portable Freeware Collection - <font style="background: #ffff00">WinTabber</font>
It should be: "Portable Freeware - Search Results"

I haven't tested it in Windows because my Win machine is fking up.

Bug report:

A search for a url (e.g. http://74.cz/en/ or http://www.donationcoder.com) messes up the page. Works fine if you drop the httpp//: though.

Bug report:

I updated BBox from V1.1.2.0 (Build 7.21.1) to V1.1.3.0 (Build 7.24.1).
But the flag still remains "New" instead of becoming "Update" :!:

Got another bug - a minor formatting save annoyance.
 1. Edit entry
 2. Change formatting on "how to extract" section (add italics for example)
 3. Save
Defect: Error message: "None of the fields have been modified!"

Workaround: Change something in the synopsis before you click Save. I usually add an extra space.

Further, if you forget to change something in the synopsis and try adding a space in the synopsis AFTER, you get the error message: "This database entry has been updated before you submit your changes. Please try editing the entry again with the new data."

Fixed! Though the search won't do what is expected since the MySQL boolean search function can't handle the search term properly.

Fixed too! Thanks for the report.

This is by design. Take it as a reminder from the system that the actual content (sans formatting) of the entry has not been changed. Use the "extra space" method as a workaround if you really want to go ahead.

@Andrew

I was editing the Download links in the DB entry for Opera but the whole entry got screwed up. I think the "Insert Link" script is causing the problem. Can someone help fixing the entry?

@I am Baas: I have fixed the entry. However, I am interested to know how to reproduce the bug.

If you have the time, could you please launch test dot portablefreeware dot com and try to reproduce the bug? The site points to a test database (the data could be quite outdated), so you can edit any entry in any way you like without repercussions to the main site.

Your help is much appreciated. Thanks!
