So I think this is just a front-end without any needed files. Should we add a note about downloading the mkvtoolnix 7zip file and pointing the program to it?

Yes, but if those tools are necessary to its functioning, I'd like them included in the How to Extract section (like we have with ExifToolGUI). The reason is that many programs that self-identify as front-ends include the programs they work on (like PDFTK Builder) and users might get stuck where I was last night with no Internet connection to download the other necessary files.

If anyone knows how to make the INI file work relative to the MKVcleaver directory, please let me know and we'll modify that.

1. As I am Bass said, MKVcleaver is no longer hosted at Google - it can now be found at http://blogs.sapib.ca/apps/mkvcleaver/

2. The latest version of MKVcleaver is v0.6.0.7

3. You don't have to extract MKVToolNix to a subfolder of the main MKVcleaver program. You can extract MKVToolNix to any folder you choose as long as you tell MKVcleaver where it is by using the "Locate MKVToolNix" button.

4. Somewhat related. I prefer to put MKVToolNix in its own folder because, in its own right, it can do more than just extract from MKV media. For example, I sometimes use mmg.exe (a.k.a. mkvmerge) to combine components from various sources to create my own MKV. For example, I can import video, audio and subtitles (that are either individual files or that are from within other multimedia files) and pick and choose what I want to combine then output to an MKV. Actually, my noob testing tells me that mmg.exe is stealth and it deserves a listing here on TPFC.

4. As you use MKVcleaver it accumulates some cruft over time. If you are like me and you like to keep things tidy, you may want to delete the following every so often: mkvcleaver_log.txt, mkv_cmd1.txt and mkv_cmd2.txt.

The fact is...

• 1. MKVcleaver does not create any subfolder named mkvtoolnix.
  
  2. It is not a requirement to put MKVToolNix in a subfolder under MKVcleaver.

There is button labeled "Locate MKVToolNix" on the MKVcleaver interface. Regardless of where the user puts MKVToolNix he must use that button the first time he launches MKVcleaver to "tell" it where to find MKVToolNix.

Finally, I recommended putting MKVToolNix in its own folder, separate and apart from MKVcleaver because there are other features in the former that has nothing to do with the latter. Doing so does not affect the functioning of MKVcleaver in anyway.

I know, but I didn't want to make extraction instructions too long. The instructions are supposed to be just a quick how-to. They are not the place to discuss everything the user can do.
