LibreOffice Portable v24.2.1 Updated

Andrew Lee on 24 Mar 2024
  • 776MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 20 Mar 2024
  • Suggested by JohnTHaller

LibreOffice is a complete productivity suite including word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, database, drawing tool and more. Includes strong compatibility for 100s of file formats including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio etc.). The program is similar to OpenOffice, a program that it was derived from, but has added many new features and improvements.

LibreOffice Portable is a special build developed in conjunction with the publisher. On systems without Java installed, some functions such as document creation wizards and the Base database application etc. can be enabled by adding jPortable, though this is optional and can be skipped if those functions are not needed. Alternatively, X-LibreOffice (64-bit version) is also available.

Other available portable versions:

  • Still - more tested and stable but with fewer features/capabilities
  • Legacy - for WinXP/Vista users (unsupported)

The program is cross platform with versions available for Mac, Linux/BSD (comes default with most distros) and supports a variety of extensions.

The most capable Portable Freeware Office.
Pity it takes sooo long to load in old machines ... oh, well ... that's the price.
With very capable Word processor, spreadsheet (Calc), presentations (Impress), expression builder (Math, physics, chemistry, etc.), Drawing (vector) editor and dataBase, one only misses specialized apps like diagram (like Dia) and raster image editors (The GIMP, MyPaint, LazPaint) to build an office to rival (and maybe even best) M$ Office.

FreeOffice is a fast and lightweight office suite with word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation tools. The interface supports themes, a dark mode, and classic or ribbon-style toolbars. All components include a wide variety of formatting, functions, and animation.

The program will import and export to standard Microsoft formats with reasonable fidelity. A forum post about the previous 2006 version can be found here.

NOTE: The program will eventually require email registration, but a workaround is available.

@webfork - The software name is FreeOffice. I think it's obvious that there is a Pro version judging by the name of the program. When using FreeOffice, some upsell will be shown within the interface of the program, so if the user is interested in their enhanced features, they can do so at their own perusal.

This is possibly a greatest (portable) prog-suite. I' using only the portable version. There is a serious problem/bug I1 experienced. After want to save my presentatuons in presentations-maker its failed, and the prog said: it's not possible because it's an illegal (pirate) version of a progam.. The non-portable waersion works flawlessly!(I think, the root of the the problem, that the portable-version put the samples/sablons etc. in different way. And, misfortunately, the portabilizing-process is not work for hunspell dictionaries, but its a minor problem. Thanks!

There is also (with the same architecure) Ashampoo Free Office:
https://www.ashampoo.com/en-us/office-free
a related, a bit older (2012), but rather compact, full-fledged compatible office suite.
One might need to supply an e-mail (may be temp) to get a product key.
To make it portable one just needs to have a file called "portable.txt" in its folder.

The reason to choose this office suite over LibreOffice is stability; while it's missing a lot of features, compatibility, customization, and other improvements in LibreOffice, crashes are very unusual.  I keep both on my machine depending on my needs.
