Re: MultiPar - file verification and redundancy
I'm a little late to report this but a Multipar beta was updated with some very nice changes including GPU usage. Based on what I understand about this process, that could result in real performance gains, assuming the disk is fast enough to keep up: https://github.com/Yutaka-Sawada/MultiPar/release...

Replying to an older post in this thread just because it's recently become very relevant ... --- ... neither is as powerful as Obsidian in terms of feature set or extensibility, but are portable and get the job done. And to be fair, most of the features that I see in Obsidian look cool and make me w...

Very nice. Noto Sans is my go-to font for almost everything but I've been kind of meh on Noto Mono. Good to know.

Re: Weather forecast in console
wttr.in is a console-oriented weather forecast service that supports various information representation methods like terminal-oriented ANSI-sequences for console HTTP clients (curl, httpie, or wget), HTML for web browsers, or PNG for graphical viewers. This is great. Were you able to get this runni...

Re: ExifTool GUI - metadata editor
Out of curiosity, do people care about this being 64-bit? There's no real processing time or memory requirement for it that would necessitate it from my understanding. I don't have strong feelings. In an age of 200 meg, 1 gig RAM usage programs to run a calculator, 32-bit seems almost friendly. But...

Re: PortableApps Foxit Reader not working after Windows update
Foxit Reader works fine on my old Windows 10. However, after I update my Windows, the annoying window "The application was unable to load a required virtual machine component...." has appeared. I recommend retrying the update just using the main website download. If that doesn't work, try...

Re: Attaching a USB drive in sandbox
Found an interesting and useful way to quickly modify the Windows Sandbox settings. Because of context menu options, it's unlikely to be portable but still a great tweak for testing and security. Re: Photo Resizer Expert (4dots)
TLDR: 4dots has started including junkware along with their free downloads and aren't especially up front about it. --- So I came across a program from the 4dots group that included a note on Softpedia https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/File-Management/Free-File-Unlocker.shtml about a "spare ...

Re: Kodak Imaging (Win95 and later)
Great post -- there is a TON of aging photo management software out there from commercial vendors like Kodak that I keep wanting to go back and explore. Some remarkably good tools that are just as useful now as then.

Re: Win11 not running on older PCs
My reply here is mostly echoing the linked Reg article but I guess it's worth repeating. That's very unfortunate and I'm sorry to see it. Whatever happens there's going to be a lot of perfectly good hardware thrown out a lot sooner than was necessary. I recall back with XP they really wanted to catc...

Re: SnipSVG - Screenshots in SVG Format for Windows and Mac
It's worth noting that the program takes standard image screenshots, and it's the addendums that are in SVG format, which you can zoom to any level and modify with an SVG editor. I'll admit I was a little disappointed that it wasn't something akin to this Firefox add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en...
