Indy,

You can test out a few things here first:
http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/utilities_editors.html

Abiword (see "Word Processors" here)

SC Unipad is very good but the free version has a number of limitations.
http://www.unipad.org/main/
http://www.unipad.org/download/ [choose the zip version]

For True Type Unicode fonts (a necessity for multi-lingual work) check out:

Try AkelPad - http://akelpad.net.ru/english.shtml:

AkelPad is a freeware editor for Windows, which can replace standard Notepad.

Its advantages:

* small size (less than 20 Kb in archive) (ps. 43 kb - uncompressed)
* work with big files (while Windows Notepad imposes 64K limitation)
* work with ANSI, OEM and Unicode (including UTF-8) codepages
* advanced search and repace
* convenient hotkeys (ESC to quit, F2 to save etc.)
