Portable time tracking app?
Can anyone recommend any portable time tracking apps?
I want to make more sufficient use of my time.
I came across this post:
http://freelanceswitch.com/productivity ... your-time/
But some are paid.
Here are some good, free candidates (haven't tested for portability):
Toggl - http://www.toggl.com/
timeEdition - http://www.timeedition.com/en/features/index.html
There's also a bunch more listed in the comments section that I haven't checked.
If you do test them, let me know!

TimeEdition discussed @ http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... imeedition
Toggl is an online timetracker.
There is also Project Timers... see http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... 735#p24735

Re: Portable time tracking app?
I'm interested as well. So far I've only used ManicTime (very non-portable) http://www.manictime.com/ , which was on lifehacker's top 5 http://lifehacker.com/5362829/five-best ... plications
Here's Lifehacker's listing of all "time tracking" apps http://lifehacker.com/tag/time-tracker/ but I couldn't find any PFW tools on the list.
The closest I could find was http://slimtimer.com/, which is web-based, but a little meaningless if you lost your web connection.

Time Stamp @ http://www.syntap.com/products_timestamp.htm
Download .zip package (installer + source) @ http://www.syntap.com/downloads.htm and uniextract. Delete the usual stuff and run Timestamp.exe
Settings: Application Folder
Requirements: Win9x, ME, 2K, XP, Vista, 7

I use the free version of Timewriter:
http://www.timewriter.com/pages/downloa ... eeware.php
It's old, but it's got a nice interactive week display, similar to the new version:
It's nearly portable, it writes an ini file in c:\windows. I just created an NSIS wrapper to copy it back and forth when I open and close the app. I'm not sure if the file is required for Timewriter to work correctly.

Re: Portable time tracking app?
I know of three portable applications that monitor your computer usage and can assign programs or open files to categories:
http://ttracker.sourceforge.net/
http://ptm.sourceforge.net/
http://www.autotimesheet.com *requires .NET*
The first two are open source. I don't know how stealthy any might be.

@I Am Baas - Toggl has a desktop widget as well:
http://www.toggl.com/public/widgets (probably connects to Toggl)
@ashghost, I Am Baas - TimeTracker reads really good. Need to do some testing! The rule filtering + CSV export maybe all I need.
@ashghost - Thanks for that list, will give them a test.

Have you looked into Tempo? It's a web-based time tracker but you can input data via email, twitter, widget or iPhone. Check it out here: http://zetetic.net/c/tempo-forum
Re: Portable time tracking app?
I can recommend Task Coach but, being the author, I'll admit I'm biased. Task Coach is an open source, cross-platform task manager, available for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and iPhone. Of course, it supports time tracking and it is portable.

Re: Portable time tracking app?
I think the essence of a time tracking application is automatic analysis of computer activity rather than manual entry. I see that more as a category of project management.Of course, it supports time tracking and it is portable.
I don't know if this was a requirement of Freakazoid's when he originally posted.

Grindstone got a very warm review from freewaregenius:
http://www.freewaregenius.com/2010/08/2 ... -on-tasks/
Like many programs on that site, this one claims to be portable but its not clear if that's true or not.
Edit: I tested at least the "make travel version" process and got a minor bug, which I submitted to the site (just had to click cancel at the error msg and seemed to work fine after that). It requires dotNET 3.5.

Re: Portable time tracking app?
Just took a peak at this. Looks nice, but requires .NET 3.5 & MS Report Viewer; however, features such as being able to keep the portable and installed versions in sync and billing and reporting capabilities make this a really nice piece of software.webfork wrote:Grindstone got a very warm review from freewaregenius:

Re: Portable time tracking app?
Yeah I just figured that out when I tried to install. I didn't see anything on the FWG or home page about that.chadross wrote:Just took a peak at this. Looks nice, but requires .NET 3.5 & MS Report Viewer;
