That could be named as "The Portable Portable Freeware Collection"
Re: The Portable Freeware Collection • Post a new topic
So, the portable collection itself is not portable?
Hmm...something has to be done!

No, I run it on Windows, Linux and BSD and it worked fine!joby_toss wrote:So, the portable collection itself is not portable?

Probably a good idea. According to the way the industry is trending, most people using the Internet are going to be using a mobile device, even if our primary audience is Windows PC users. A mobile format would help because bandwidth for these devices probably isn't going down due to reduced competition in wireless. Although the site can be viewed easily through an RSS feed, casual visitors can't really surf RSS.Bolley wrote:does http://www.portablefreeware.com has mobile version?
I think the main part of the website could be setup using RSS to make a low-bandwidth mobile-friendly version, but I don't know. As far as the forums, that's a whole other topic.
I know that's not exactly what you meant, but I've been thinking for a while that we will eventually need a disambiguation between portable-as-in-USB-drive and portable-as-in-cell phones/tablets/etc.joby_toss wrote:So, the portable collection itself is not portable?

That should be "The Portable Freeware Collection itself is not mobile".
Anyway, I occasionally use the Android stock browser to view TPFC without problems. I use Opera Mini when I am on 3G to reduce bandwidth usage.
I bet someone will soon suggest Android or iPhone apps for TPFC!

Re: Mobile version of PFWC?
More than a decade later, it still doesn't work on mobile...but the forum does.
Can you make the listings work in mobile too? At the very least as an interim solution add the same meta tag you have in the forums:
The site will still be too wide, but it'll still be better than small desktop mode.
Although maybe the interim solution should be 0.7 and not 1 because that fits exactly the listings:
