FileMenu Tools
Application name: FileMenu Tools
Website: http://www.lopesoft.com/en/fmtools/info.html
Date tested: 2007-01-12
Status: Not portable
Reason: Modifies shell context menu automatically on startup. Writes settings to registry.

File Menu Tools 5.8.1
http://www.lopesoft.com/en/fmtools/download.html
Version 5.8.1 - 05/16/2010
http://www.lopesoft.com/en/fmtools/info.html
FileMenu Tools allows you to customise the context menu of Windows Explorer. And it lets you:
Add some built-in utilities that perform operations on files and folders.
Add customised commands which run external applications, copy/move to a specific folder or delete specific file types.
Configure the "Send to..." submenu.
Enable/disable commands which are added by other applications to the context menu.
Download the installer and uniextract: the application files are in {app} folder. Delete FileMenuTools,1 ( .exe and .dll ) and rename FMT,2 ( .exe and .dll ) in FMT ( .exe and .dll ); Download your language files and delete unnecessary. Launch FileMenuTools.exe.
Settings: app folder; write some settings to registry ( F.E. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\FileMenuTools and HKEY_USER\S-1-5-21-220523388-1957994488-1708537768-1003\SOFTWARE\LopeSoft ).
I found this app very usefull ( even if it modifies shell context menu on startup; however you can import, export and delete configuration ); remember me some feature of FastExplorer.

Note that the software does not run at windows start up!
Most of reg key are empty.
As you can see you could easily restore the default context menu,
by using FastExplorer, for example.

All set -- thanks

If any has understood the importance of the launcher, here is a big step forward ( still beta ):

Huh?zak_711 wrote:If any has understood the importance of the launcher, here is a big step forward ( still beta ):

There are several reasons why I ask:
1. Beware: great big huge annoying video chat pop up
2. Nowhere to enter the "sharecode" that I can see
3. Launcher beta? Huh?

I'll join webfork in perplexity ...

FileMenu Tools
FileMenu Tools, with its new portable version, is in the database now. Although already public, you can find the entry here.
I just want to add a couple of things.
1) If you have FileMenu Tools already installed and want to preserve your configuration, you have to download the last installable version, export the settings to an INI file (from "File/Export Settings"), and place this INI file in the Data folder. Don't change its name (it has to be settings.ini).
2) The self-extracting package already contains 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and the correct version is automatically selected when you register the shell extension.
3) Since FileMenu Tools is extremely versatile, I included it in only one category to avoid cluttering the field.
Two notes for those who are addicted to the context menu:
-The Pack to Folder function is identical to that provided by Files 2 Folder, developed by Jody Holmes (Skwire Empire) (and I wonder who had the original idea).
-And the Unpack Folder function is very similar to what LevelZap does.

Re: FileMenu Tools
It also leaves the registry entry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LopeSoft
If you remove the "\Data\settings\FileMenuToolsSettings.ini"
you dont get the warning from the launcher tho.
Edit: Seems like a link to the PortableApps.com page should be included in the DB entry some where.
You link to Lopesoft website but downloading a PortableApps.com archive.

Re: FileMenu Tools
Thanks, you're right. I made a procedural error in my test (and now I realized what was the mistake), and as a result the registry key passed unnoticed.Napiophelios wrote:It also leaves the registry entry

Sorry for the misinformation, I'll update the entry and try to contact the author about this problem.
I don't think so. I can't link to PortableApps.com when the package is exclusively provided by LopeSoft.Napiophelios wrote:Edit: Seems like a link to the PortableApps.com page should be included in the DB entry some where.

The only reference to PA.c in the LopeSoft's page is:
FileMenu Tools Portable is compatible with launchers: PortableApps.com and CodySafe. Therefore it is visible automatically in the app listing of these launchers.

Re: FileMenu Tools
Sorry I thought some one from PortableApps.com made the launcher,
there is usually a description page for their releases.
