Truly impressive find,
avi-aryan.
EverEdit is loaded with features, while surprisingly lightweight (4580KB working set on load, in my XP Pro SP3!). It strikes me as a
Sublime Text Windows replacement 'wannabe', which in itself is quite a tall order. Browsing through its folders made it appear extremely user customizable. But what really sold me is MarkDown support...
EverEdit comes from China, so the radical paranoid should abstain; for the savvy, there's an open code repository (
https://github.com/everedit/). It is based on
HexEdit of Catch22.net, a website also famous for some superior programming tutorials -- this is a case to say that the teachings really did fructify...
I didn't test portability thoroughly, but the zip file downloaded can just be extracted and run:

While it can serve as a good Notepad replacement, it also offers many powerful features for Web page authors and programmers.
