I actually noticed the other day that this program was brought up in the comments for Simple Family Tree by user Irbis82.
Incidentally, the next comment there, from user Ciaeho, mentions another alternative: the aptly-named (and easier-to-remember) GRAMPS
Both of these programs proclaim that they are packaged in the PortableApps.com format.

Not sure Ahnenblatt's PAF version is authorized by PortableApps.com.

Not only is Ahnenblatt's "PortableApps Version" not 'authorized' by PortableApps.com, it's not in PortableApps.com Format. In fact, the only difference between it and the "Zip Version" is that the main exe is not signed in the "PortableApps Version", and that there are a couple of empty folders in the "Zip Version" not present in the "PortableApps Version". I'm honestly surprised to see it in such an official looking paf.exe package. I wonder what changes were made to the PortableApps.com Installer to get it to accept this package.
While we're analyzing this stuff, the only difference between a "Full Version" installation and the "Zip Version" is that "Ahnenblatt.exe" is renamed to "AhnenblattPortable.exe" (file contents is identical).
