Swap'em
Re: Swap'em
Thanks for that. By the way he says that the x64 doesn't work on his machine, it does for me.
Re: Swap'em
Worked for me, too!
Re: Swap'em
Thank joby_toss, that's a relief.

BTW, you may want to comment on the previous article on ghacks. Some users reported Swap'em not safe.

Re: Swap'em
Thanks. Already done as a user there sent me an email.
Re: Swap'em
It's that time once again where I go through the code optimising and fixing potential bugs that I may have overlooked (though unlikely given the simplicity of the code.)

Review: http://dottech.org/98734/windows-review-swapem/
I just thought I would post this to show tech writers are starting to favour 'Portable' software over installed. I don't know if the con is actually a valid reason.

Re: Swap'em
And how would you do that? What rule should be applied? It's a non-issue, of course.Works with two files or two folders at a time only. You cannot do name swaps of, say, three files.
There is something I miss, though, in Swap'em (although this would go a little beyond what the app was meant for): the ability to "freeze" file A's name. I'd like file B to have the same name as file A (without the extension, as the 2 files have to be in the same folder). I need this often, to quickly rename a subtitle file to the same name as the movie. Let's call it a "half-swap".
And another thing: could someone benefit of a preview-only option? Like...the interface just shows the 2 new reversed names but the swap only happens when the user hits a GO button? Or a simple Preview-only mode? I don't need this myself, but there might be users unsure of the result, that would like this?
Re: Swap'em
For me swapping is between two items not three, that would be Mix'em!
I will look at adding both your suggestions, I would probably add an option for preview mode or something along those lines. About your half-swap, could you provide me a quick before and after so I can see if I understood correctly. Thanks.

Re: Swap'em
Half-swap
Before:
- movie.mkv
- subtitle.srt
After:
- movie.mkv
- movie.srt
2nd dropped file renamed as the first one. The reason would be to auto-load the subtitle in mpc-hc for example.

Re: Swap'em
Preview sounds good to me. There could be a checkbox for the joby_toss 'freeze' feature and perhaps for more.
Interesting GUI design challenge!

Re: Swap'em
Thanks joby_toss, will have a look at this on Sunday now.
GUI design is my least favourite part but I think I will look at re-designing the UI at the same time.

Re: Swap'em
I have decided to continue development of Swap'em.
Re: Swap'em
Yay, the guinness is still around.

Just been busy with AutoIt since I was given Developer status by the owner.
