Portable UnityPDF

Listing this program in this thread because it doesn't appear to do much past what PDFSAM will do apart from some metadata tricks, password protection, and an ability to subdivide PDFs into sections (e.g. 9 pages into 3 sets of 3 docs).

Portable UnityPDF

Requires dotNET 2.0+

(Haven't tested.)

UnityPDF is a nice app. It removes metadata, inserts pdfs, extracts specific pages or ranges, splits in a number of ways, and more. Gave PDFSam a try, but it doesn't seem to have as many features. Also, it's a Java app, which in my opinion is a negative because of its performance.

Cool, thanks for that. I didn't list the program name in my entry, which was sloppy work. Went back and updated.

Cool, thanks for the background. I'll test it out.

This might need it's own thread now...

Edit: Softpedia's portable link is broken. A downloadable portable version is available here: http://www.unitypdf.com/download

Edit 2: Got an error message: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Going to give this a separate thread.

Tested UnityPDF v1.0.2.0 (Portable ZIP) - 1.73 Mo - MD5 : 348341E5B76031C99C7BEF3573279343
Saves no settings, so it's portable and stealth.
For me, it's a keeper.

UnityPdf wrote:!!!! Don't miss this final release! The project will be ended at the end of January !!!!

We tried to offer a freeware version limited to the personal usage and a commercial version for business usage without success. Both versions had the same features and we discovered that almost everybody was not fair play and used the free version for commercial purposes. Because we always wanted to keep a free UnityPDF version, some time ago we decided to release only a freeware version for all usages and to try to get some income from advertising, especially from the Google Adsense program. It worked well, the income was enough to cover the hosting cost, but Google has decided to close our account and we don't know exactly why (apparently to have violated their program rules). We tried to ask for an account reactivation, without success. We tried to contact Google directly to have more detailed explanations but we never received any answer. We tried other advertising program (but they pay almost nothing), we try the pay per download (non ethical because is not free for the user) and we try some pay per install program but it was quite annoying for the users and we decided that no of those solutions were acceptable.

To make a long story short, we don't have any income anymore from several months and providing free, reliable and useful software require time and money. Unfortunately we cannot continue to maintain this project correctly and we have decided to end the project (and the hosting) of UnityPDF at the end of January. So, don't miss the last download final release and keep preciously a copy of it. All the UnityPDF team wants to thank you for your support, your messages and contributions (translators) and hope you enjoyed the UnityPDF features.

Is it that, like cherries, bad news come in pairs? :(

I contacted the authors and asked them to release the source code but don't have high expectations on that.

Good alternative to UnityPDF: PDFTK http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1066 and PDFSAM http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... 424#p50424

I wouldn't compare it to UnityPDF, just because one is sort of a special use tool where I use WinSplit ALL the time.
