Just saw this one:
Decompress 7z, cab, rar, tar, zip files with ease
User friendly extractor for compressed archives
...
PeaExtractor is a spin-off from PeaZip free archiver project, and it is built on same proven Open Source components, providing support for extraction of 150+ archive types: 7Z, ACE, BZ2, CAB, GZ, ISO, RAR, TAR, ZIP format and many more.

Note: haven't tested it yet, but it should be portable, as it is made by Giorgio Tani, author of PeaZip.

Extractnow is great. Highly configurable yet simple - appeals to both basic and advanced users. PeaExtractor is more basic but also good.

Great suggestion - it checks off almost all the ideal features I listed and totally caught a feature I didn't even think of: search. So no matter WHERE your boss accidentally saved that file, he can still track it down and open it. I also like how the password entry was handled. It covers Bzip2, arc, zipx, and many more ... I probably could not have asked for better format support.
It even worked like Universal Extractor on at least one program I used: MP3Tag (
http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1137) but doesn't include the
Innoup libraries so it couldn't function as a replacement for that program.
Wishlist
- By default it should suggest a place that is a folder with the same name. So for example, archive.zip should suggest extraction to whatever the zip file directory \archive. In my testing, I got a whole bunch of files spread out over my desktop, which I can see confusing people or causing problems.
Specular already hit on this issue:
Specular wrote:I always hated extracting things only to see a neat folder suddenly filled with various extracted files.
- Password entry is grayed out if the archive has no password requirement. I say this because it's presence means some users are going to immediately ask the person who sent them something for the password.
- Have the directory contents look like this:
Users should have ZERO question about what they're supposed to run. Right now there's pea.exe and a ton of other files to throw off beginners.
- Some kind of progress/time remaining analysis.
Edit:
additional wishlist item:
- Ability to type a location into the extract box rather than having a static box until you click the "..." button to browse locations.

I downloaded the portable version from Softpedia. States it's freeware; it doesn't mention anything about it being ad supported
here.

Thank's for adding, Baas!
Didn't want to do it myself yet, as this is a new born app and there might still be some unpolished features.
But now that it's online...voted.

Oh there are a few minor issues with the GUI that need to be ironed out but PeaExtractor is ready for TPFC database
Here is an example:

Ah, I didn't see that: a lot of portable software gets a pass on adware (thankfully).
