QIP Infium - instant messenger

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

QIP Infium - instant messenger

#1 Post by K0styan »

OIP Infium is the next generation of QIP instant messenger (some old build of previous generation, QIP 2005, is already mentioned on this site). QIP 2005 only works in ICQ network, but Infium supports Jabber and SIP VoIP protocols by default. Also Infium is plugin-based utility, like Miranda, so support of other IM and VoIP protocols is only question of time. Present version is beta only, but it's quite stable.

How to make portable: download .zip, unpack. On first run select program folder for keeping user profiles.

Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Infium\ - information about default language and name of default profile. Though this record notifies that Infium was run on computer, it doesn't contain any private data.

Re: [dead] QIP Infium - instant messenger

QIP is not dead, it has a new page but it is only in Russian:
http://welcome.qip.ru/im

I have tested QIP 2005 Build 8098 (http://welcome.qip.ru/im/2005) and it is totally portable but IT SHOULD NOT BE INSTALLED- one mistake during installation and it can severely harm the system (years ago I had to re-install Windows because it damaged it beyond repair). Below I will describe the procedure of making QIP 2005 portable:

-1. Download either the EXE (http://download.qip.ru/2005/qip2005.exe), or the ZIP (http://download.qip.ru/2005/qip2005.zip) or the RAR (http://download.qip.ru/2005/qip2005.rar) file, the archives contain the same executable (qip2005.exe).
-2. Extract the executable (I extracted it with InnoExtractor which produced 'QIP 2005 8098' folder).
-3. Open the folder containing the extracted executable and delete everything except {app} folder- it contains QIP program.
-4. Rename the {app} folder as you'd like and put it where you'd like.
-5. Open the main folder (previous {app} folder)- inside it there is a LI folder (it contains the language configuration)- open it and inside it you will find 'current.cfg' file.
-6. Open 'current.cfg'- it contains the following text-
Russian
204
-7. Select it all and delete it, type/paste English, save it and close it.
-8. Run 'qip.exe' file- you will need to put your ICQ number and password.
-9. After the first run QIP will create Users sub-folder inside the main folder which contains all user data.

Some notes:

- the procedure I described above is valid only for QIP 2005, I haven't tested QIP 2012 for portability because the last time I used it I didn't like it at all.
- QIP 2005 can connect only to ICQ but it is very light on resources and has some unique features ('All-Seeing Eye', 'Remove Myself from User's CL', etc) which cannot be found in any other ICQ client.
- QIP installer is ads-ridden but once extracted QIP program is clean- no banners, no ads of any kind.
- QIP 2005 is a robust and highly-configurable ICQ client, perhaps the most feature-rich one. However the latest version (QIP 2005 Build 8098) uses a slightly modified icons which I do not like. I prefer the icons set from a previous version (QIP 2005 Build 8095) and upon demand I can upload it in the cloud.

Below I will attach several screen-shots of QIP 2005:

I took down the "dead" note from the main post.
