Snap MD5 - Simple MD5 Comparison Utility

#1 Post by jaden »

I wrote this utility to make it easy to compare MD5 sums when the MD5 sum is already in the clipboard. Once the file is downloaded you run it (I use Free Commander with a shortcut) and can immediately see if the download is good.

I called the utility Snap MD5 and it's completely portable as it doesn't have any settings (did I mention it's simple?)

I've tested it on Windows 7 x64 and XP 32bit. It should work on all versions of Windows.

By the way, I'm a longtime lurker, more of the main site than the forum. Thanks to Andrew and all the others for maintaining the site - I'm a portable freeware addict :)

Great application! You know that you can add to the database. Then it will be tested and voted so everyone can see your application.

Plus, are you taking any feature requests?

Ah, I'd forgotten I could add it to the database. I'll do so, and yes, I'm willing to take feature requests, as long as they aren't too involved. I want to keep it simple :)

OK, I just thought drag and drop could be implemented, what coding language do you use?

I had intended to implement drag and drop, but from the research I did it's non-trivial.

I wrote it in Free Pascal using Lazarus. DnD support within the app is doable, but cross-application seems problematic.

I've added drag and drop as well as a few more features, but I don't see a way to update the entry.

Is that something I can do?

Wow, talk about fast service. Thanks!

Is there a way to update the screenshot? The new version looks a little different.

No problem. I had wanted to add it but I didn't know how and no amount of Googling helped. I finally asked Giorgio Tani, developer of Peazip, which has drag and drop support and uses the same dev environment. His response was all it took.

If anyone has any other feature requests, let me know.

I switched hash calculator a while ago and chose Snap MD5. :) Good work, jaden.
