---
PWGen is a password generator capable of creating large amounts of cryptographically-secure passwords or passphrases (from word lists). It uses a random pool to gather entropy from user inputs and system parameters. Offers text encryption and random data file creation, too.

PWGen 2.05 released 23-09-2010
Version 2.05 fixes an “access violation” bug which sometimes occurred when pressing hotkeys in the character set and word list file lists, and features a main menu, larger toolbar icons and further (minor) changes.

Looks like a good tool: uses strong, well-known methods of random data generation, integrates mouse movement for better random information, and its open (GPL).

Very glad to have the text encryption: the other entries here on the site are a little too complicated for some users (GPG4USB) or not open (ClipSecure). Tested and seems to work well.

I think the primary point behind a password generator is to create ready-made, fully random passwords for lots of users or lots of accounts. The primary advantage of this program over my previous favorite Password Generator (http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... f=4&t=1496) is the removal of ambiguous characters such as 0 and O, as well as lowercase L vs. I, which looks the same in some fonts.

@webfork

Thanks for adding PWGen.

I used Sarah Dean's PasswordGen before (Portable and include the source code. Get it @ http://www.sdean12.org/Download.htm) but like PWGen better.

Ha! Yeah I've got a lot of time on my hands lately and want to put it towards something productive.

An attempt was made to clearly and quickly describe the master password feature. Hopefully that got close.

I don't like when the developers change their programs' icons
- new cube-shaped program icon, now also available in "extra large" size (256x256 pixels)
but then Rebuild Shell Icon Cache comes as an indispensable helper.
