Extra Keys [character input utility]

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Extra Keys [character input utility]

#1 Post by I am Baas »

[Mod note: the present is the official forum topic for Extra Keys; https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2543]

Type any accented characters for French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Scandinavian languages. Also other special characters - this small Windows software tool enables simple input of letters and symbols that may not appear on your normal keyboard.

Settings: none
Requirements: Win2000,XP,Vista,Win7

Download the installer @ http://www.deeproot.co.uk/downloads/ExtraKeys_setup.exe and extract (7-zip), delete $PLUGINSDIR folder, launch extrakeys.exe
All the characters are from the ANSI Latin-1 character set, suitable for use with Western European and US fonts. Extended Unicode characters for other regions are not provided by this version, but might be in a future development.

Thanks, I like it. Too bad that it hasn't got a settings file as the default settings doesn't fit my needs.

Edit: after playing with some similar apps I found that creating a powerpro bar is the best solution for me.

Simple, easily extendable & configurable, utilizes all 3 mouse buttons, etc. If anyone interested I can export the bar from powerpro.

I wrote this little program - aim was to keep it simple and small as possible.

There are many other ways to do the same thing - maybe this is not be best for everyone, but some might find it useful.

It was orignally just a tool in a commercial application. If I get time, perhaps there will be an enhanced version in the future - still free and portable. I'm currently working to have a true portable option for my main application (sorry, not freeware).

A plain ZIP download is now available as an alternative to the NSIS installer, same page as above.

Extra-Keys is really handy to type diacriticals when working as non-admin in computers with exotic keyboard configurations. :)
