For me it's useless, as it loses all settings once you exit it.

tomcat on 2014-09-16 14:18

Addendum.
I've tried the Free Alarm Clock proposed by Midas above, and it's clearly superior, the best of the lot in fact.

BartPE v3.1.10a

BartPE enables you to create a self-contained version of Windows on CD/DVD that runs "live" from the CDROM. It includes full network support and read/write access to NTFS volumes, which is great for diagnostic or troubleshooting purposes. It also includes a good number of built-in apps, and many more can be added via the plugin mechanism.

Note: You need the original Windows Installation CDROM in order to build the "live" CD.

I finally decided to give BartPE a try so that I could make a bootable Ghost 8 CD, but when I would go to boot the finished CD, the damn thing would freeze at the "please wait" bar every time.

I spent my whole weekend trying to get it to work.

No matter what options I enabled/disabled and no matter what files I added or removed, it would still freeze at that "please wait" bar.

What a waste of time!

I ended up going with HawkPE.
Unfortunately, it doesn't enable CD/DVD burning support in Ghost, but at least the thing boots.

Richard on 2008-11-28 15:11

Well, I decided to try one more thing before giving up on BartPE.

I tried using my friend's Windows XP disk instead of mine and it worked.

My disk was version 2600.1152 (SP2)

and his disk was version 2600.1106 (SP1)

I can't believe I was unable to find any support anywhere related to freezing with certain XP versions.
BartPE has been around a long time now ... it seems like someone must have known about this problem.

Hopefully I don't encounter any more mystery bugs!

There also appears to be a plug-in for FireFox called GhostFox that works essentially the same way. Simply Google "Ghostfox" or "Ghostfox firefox plugin" to find it.

It writes some info about computer in %TEMP%\InfoTool\HDReadiness.txt, but I believe it's portable otherwise.

BTW, if you are planing to use later versions of Nero (or Nero portable), google for mini-nero or micro-nero, which are customized installations that remove most of useless bloatware tools.

Who needs this utility and why, I really would like to know.
I can honestly say that having a messy taskbar has never been a problem for me

ArtRage v1.1

Checker on 4 Aug 2014

ArtRage is a painting package that features numerous realistic painting tools in a simple, intuitive environment. ArtRage lets you paint your own picture from a blank canvas, or load an image to 'trace' using any of its painting tools, letting you recreate your own images as painting.

Note: ArtRage no longer appears to be portable. The settings are written to the user profile folder instead of the application folder. Therefore I am freezing the portable version at V1.1 until further development.

Category:
Runs on:Win2K / WinXP
Writes settings to: None. Actually it writes a single entry to the Windows registry the first time it is run so that the introductory screen will not appear again the next time, but that hardly counts as a setting.
