Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

HostsXpert v4.3

#1 Post by Lare2 »

HostsXpert is an ultra-groovy Hosts file Manager, Editor and Helper-outter.
Seems portable from what i can see. To what extent, i still don't know, but IMO still worth to mention it here to see what you think.

I read about it while downloading the latest host file from mvps.org and they mention the portability of it also.

== off tipic ==

This is my first post also. Been lurking and using the site for some time and finally signed up.

Website: http://www.funkytoad.com/index.php?opti ... view&id=13
Download: http://www.funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip (353kb)

Checks out as portable here, no settings, only writes to the hosts file.
Nice find

Just a minor detail: 01 February 2007 is the date of the original post.

If you go to page two you will see the changelog date:

"Version 4.3 - updated 7-27-2008

-Fixed - Download/check update for HpHosts file.

-Fixed numerous minor bugs."

Although Envoy is correct that this has been previously submitted I just want to say that this program is great and I'm been using it portably very happily. And I use it to make sure my Hosts on all my computers (30+) are blocking yucky stuff

Woo Hoo He updated it Because I emailed him and let him know of the MVPS change :) (LOL he left the date as 2/2007 as if it weren't updated)
