Thanks for making this BGM. I think I may have come across this in one of its earlier version. After re-testing it has now replaced Numculator as my go-to calculator due to the swiftness of its launch.

@billion any idea where I could find the changelog for 1.8+? Could only source up to 1.7 on the documentation site.

billon on 2019-05-21 11:44

@Specular:

v1.8 wasn't announced even on DonationCoder
Maybe v1.9 changelog is summary for 1.8 too?
Or maybe BGM himself can clear this?

ColorCop v5.3

shnbwmn on 28 Nov 2016
  • 101KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by risk

ColorCop allows you to magnify any part of your screen and pick a color from it using the eye dropper tool. The magnifier supports 1 to 16x zoom, and the eye dropper tool can pick an average color from a 3x3 or 5x5 area instead of sampling only a single pixel. The picked color can be easily exported to various formats required by HTML, Delphi, PowerBuilder, Visual Basic or Visual C++ etc.

Note: versions newer than v5.3 are no longer natively portable (see "What's new?" button above), because they leave traces in the system; as the license doesn't forbid redistribution, TPFC is making the natively portable v5.3 available for download.

Not sure why the author decided to make the settings store in the appData for the newer versions. Older versions are stealth.

Maybe a drive to make it more Windows 10 compatible, as later versions seem to have problems with it... (e.g., see https://github.com/ColorCop/ColorCop/releases/).

Tested and I won't keep it, so here is my mini-review, some info for others to decide if it fits their uses.

1. "Dirty" portable installation : Install > Tools > Copy to flash drive > Uninstall, leaves many traces to hunt for and manually delete.

2. Free version much too much crippled for my use. Can't publish to eBook, can't export TOC, so can't use to publish anything outside of the program. Word and HTML export don't preserve internal links and can't be easily navigated.

Sad, because it offers by far the best text formatting I've found (images, tables, links, styles, etc.).

Not a bad product for sure, and respect to the programmer for offering a free version, but if you search for a "simple but just enough options" programs to write and publish lesson notes for your students, just know that you'll have to pay to make it usable / useful.

I'll keep searching, having abandoned EssentialPIMFree (not enough formatting options) and Precision Helper (no more developed since ages). Of course, YMMV, IMHO, etc. ;-)

Have a nice day!

I have been using this program for years. I have tried every way possible to contact the authour in order to have some improvements made, but can't ever seem to get ahold of him. None of the comments I make on the page ever get moderated and posted.

It has an issue where if you create a new folder and then immediately attempt to delete it, you will get an application exception, even the app won't crash completely. After that exception, nothing you do will get saved, so the best thing to do at that point is to exit the program completely and re-open it. I used reshacker on it and was able to achieve wordwrap in the comments pane, and to remove the functionality where the cursor gets put anywhere you click instead of going to last place available in the line of text. If anyone wants my hacked version, I can provide it. Like I said, I've tried everything to get ahold of the authour, but all to no avail. However, despite all this, I haven't found a better "code bank" than this one, and I've tried them all.

I am Baas on 2012-07-02 01:08

@tproli
Fixed. Here's what happened... I opened CodeBank2's config file with Notepad while testing the program for portability. But I totally forgot about that when I was looking for registry changes. To cut the story short, .xdb2 came up in the search results and I was quick to list it as "not stealth", neglecting the fact that Notepad was the culprit. Thanks, redfaced baas.
