I'm actually glad this situation came up as I'd forgotten all about this program and have the exact sort of setup tproli is talking about: a monitor situation without a simple off button. Saves a lot of time and energy.

Not every laptop has a dedicated button to turn off the screen; if you're using a laptop with external mouse then you'll appreciate this proggie.
Anyway, it's simple - if you think it's stupid then don't use it.
This is stupid. If you need to turn off the monitor just do it. Either on the monitor itself or by using a keyboard shortcut if you're on a laptop.
1. you can power off monitor/notebook screen at any time (no need to wait x minutes)
2. you can check "ignore mouse movement" to disable power on on mouse move (which can often happen)
How is this better than the built-in Window Power management options for monitors?
"Delete Monoff4.exe. Launch Monoff4s.exe." It's difficult...
Tried it out and it solved my problem of a faulty power button at the front of the monitor. I have a lap-top connected to an external monitor.
The version downloaded (spring 2024) seems to be a portable version from 2009 and it stores settings locally in a configuration file Monoff4.ini.
I made some notes from my experience and information gathered from the web. The information may be useful to other users,
When run, Monoff4.exe puts your monitor into either a "Low Power" mode or a "Power Off" standby mode. Then the application exits.
The mode is determined by the configuration settings.
Monitor re-activation is by a keystroke.
Monitor re-activation can also be by mouse movement, depending on the configuration settings.
### Configuration Settings ###
Settings are stored in the file Monoff4.ini file that is present in the application directory. The configuration entries are in text format.
## To change settings
Press and hold the space bar and and double click on Monoff4.exe.
The configure mode is entered, release the space bar.
Note that settings are saved only if you click on the "Save settings" button.
A Hotkey can be assigned from within the properties tab of the applications's desktop shortcut.
