Songbird is a feature-rich iTunes-like media manager and player with easy-to-navigate media library and a long list of supported devices. Like iTunes, the program supports audio, video, and photo sync, and can import or export to or from iTunes. The program supports a long list of devices, audio formats, and skins to change the look and feel.
The program supports folder watch, dynamic playlists, album artwork, gapless playback, equalizer, etc. Includes an integrated web browser (Firefox) and works with internet radio sources. Optional add-ons are available to extend features with several default and downloadable tools including CD-rip, concert look-up for artists, lyrics, music store and both Quicktime (if installed) and Windows Media Video formats.
Songbird Portable is a portable version of the standard program. Clients available for Mac and many Android devices.

I was one of the many people begging for Songbird Portable back when it was just a "hatchling". I believe it took 1-2 years before an official portable version was made -- by that time Foobar2000 became my inseparable best mate. Sure Songbird is the new kid on the block and Speed, memory and no itunes support will probably be it's Achilles heal, but it has a lot of potential through add-ons and it's web support.
V1.9.3
Additional note: the program appears to freeze when asked to scan directories with more than around 100 gigs of music.
V1.9.3
A stable, feature-rich audio player and one of the only open source players here on the site with a beautiful, easy-to-use interface.
Although the program is large in terms of memory and disk footprint, the program is dwarfed by iTunes resource usage and its host of memory-resident programs. The program itself isn't much different than many other players here on the site, but its looking like plugins and add-ons will end up being the real star of this program with radio, lyrics, and even Torrent management.

I hate portableapps.com launchers, sure it meets portable requirements that nothing is left on the machine and doesn't require installation, but you aren't natively launching the app.
songbird itself is based off of the same engine as firefox plus gstreamer firefox alone is a big package and so is gstreamer so it does add up.

As I dislike PA.com launchers myself, I went looking around for alternatives and found SongChick (for more info, see http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=60297#p60297).
