Free Uninstaller is a replacement for the "Add/Remove Program" control panel applet. It starts up slightly faster, gives a variety of information on every program installed on your computer, and can uninstall multiple programs consecutively.

Also allows you to remove invalid entries, which are highlighted in red, directly from the uninstall list. You can also choose to view only invalid entries when cleaning up the system.

Runs on:Win98 / WinME / Win2K / WinXP / Vista
Writes settings to: Application folder. A couple of non-configurable values are stored in the registry.
Stealth: ? No
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch fun.exe.

A great program with registry backup capability, detailed program information, and a net search tool to quickly find out even more.

Best of all, it will uninstall multiple programs simultaneously -- great with the useless software that comes pre-installed with Dell, Compaq, and other computers.

@Chris, you were probably right. I removed a couple invalid entries and the error has stopped.

  • Suggested by AlephX

Advanced Process Manipulation (APM) is an advanced process/module viewer and manipulation utility that allows particular control over target processes by becoming a part of them. APM attaches a part of itself to the target process and once 'inside', APM is free to perform actions on its behalf (e.g.: determining which ports are in use, un/loading DLLs into the target process, allowing you to make plugins for virtually any program...)

Free Digital Camera Enhancer v1.3

webfork on 5 Jan 2014
  • 697KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

Free Digital Camera Enhancer improves photo quality by performing noise reduction, skin smoothing and automatic balance control for you. It works best for portraits or close-ups taken under bad lighting condition.

Category:
Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP
Writes settings to: Windows registry. I am classifying it as portable because you basically need to tweak the setting for each photo (it does not have a batch mode), so having portable settings does not really buy you anything.
Unicode support: No
License: Freeware
How to extract:
  1. Download the zipped installer and install to the default folder
  2. Copy DigitalEnhance.exe to a folder of your choice
  3. Uninstall the program
  4. Launch DigitalEnhance.exe

An awesome little photo enhancer that works wonders with underexposed photos! I have both the free Digital Camera Enhancer and the paid DCAutoEnhance from the author. And despite the free version using "older" algorithms, sometimes I think it still does a better job than the newer, paid version.

Surprisingly useful and effective versus the host of other graphics editors I've seen. Has a few targeted features that can really turn around a dull picture. The user interface is clunky (could use some drag-and-drop) but its worth the extra effort for turning around important but dull pictures.

WinSnap v1.1.10

freakazoid on 26 Feb 2021

WinSnap is a small utility for taking and editing screenshots. It can easily capture screenshots of non-rectangular windows with the background of your choice, automatically perform simple canvas transformations and coloring effects, add professional Photoshop-style shadows etc. Note that if you are running this on versions of Windows before XP, you will need to place GDIPLUS.DLL in the application folder.

Note: Starting from V2.x, WinSnap is no longer free for personal use. We are linking to the last freeware version available on an alternative site. If you have a more recent freeware version, please post in forums.

Category:
Runs on:Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
License: Free for personal use
How to extract: Download the "Portable Edition" ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch WinSnap.exe.
What's new?
  • New interface languages: Norwegian, Serbian, Portuguese (24+ now)
  • Palette optimization for 8-bit GIF images
  • Issues with auto-save image format were fixed

I agree with CD. This is simply the best capture tool for Windows.

For me it's useless, as it loses all settings once you exit it.

tomcat on 2014-09-16 14:18

Addendum.
I've tried the Free Alarm Clock proposed by Midas above, and it's clearly superior, the best of the lot in fact.
