Very very Good !!! Develop somthing to convert Word/Excel etc to PDF without having to go through aquisition and installation of Printer driver

P Smith on 2009-01-25 12:17

PDFproducer is not fancy and will produce text-only PDFs in only one of three fonts, and the entire document is only one font size, but it's quick and it works very well.

Use Open Office if you want a free program to make more complex PDFs including pictures or different fonts and sizes. Open Office can export documents as PDFs.

Finally, an MP3 Tagger that will autonumber Track numbers.
Many MP3 players sort by track number, and if you are doing sequential podcasts or other downloaded stuff, the track numbers are often non-existent, and they play out of order.
I have used a dozen or so other taggers and so far must change each tag one by one, and often each one requiring multiple mouseclicks or keystrokes.

Virtual Drives Manager v1.0b

webfork on 12 Nov 2020
  • 213KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

Virtual Drives Manager is a tool for defining virtual drives in your filesystem. Virtual drives are symbolic links that points to existing directories on your filesystem. This is essentially a graphical version of ###0###subst.exe###1###.

###2###Note:###3### This application periodically tries to contact www.appcontrols.com. If you are using a personal firewall, you can simply block it from accessing the network. But if you are really fussy about such things, then you might not want to use the program at all.

Category:
Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP
Writes settings to: Windows registry, but does not affect the portability of the application.
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch VirtualDrives.exe.

Another way of solving the above "phoning home" issue is to edit you 'hosts' file and point www.appcontrols.com to 127.0.0.1 -- be forewarned though that, should you do this, you won't be able to open the webpage without reversing the edit...

9.5/10 points.

I like this tool very much and use it all the time. It is my default color picker and window magnifier (window is resizable). It would get a 10/10 if it remembered window size and position from one session to another in an .ini file.

Despite what is written in the Synopsis above, I don't think that it does image grabbing.

Evan on 2007-12-31 05:12

@CD: You will have discovered by now that ZZoom offers you the option to copy an image of just its window content to the clipboard by pressing 'i' while the app is in focus. Clicking the '?' on the menu bar, one can see the command keys. This capture function is this app's weak point for me, and honestly I'm wondering how it saves settings between sessions. Anyone?

John Jimenez on 2009-01-21 05:35

My only issue with this app is that it does not work with Semi-transparent windows. This makes it a bit of a boon to use with screen rulers.

I still use this program all the time. It crashes hard if you have "Auto-save the log after 1000 lines" enabled. I just went looking for an update. There are none. It seems to be a one off because I couldn't find anything recent from Kristen Tande, who made this and Microburner. Some developer profiles here and there; that's it. Site is long gone. Unique and useful and quite portable. Stores settings in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SILENTNIGHT] or copy/paste.

Power Menu adds "Always On Top", "Minimize To Tray", "Priority" and "Transparency" submenus to all top level system menus. Advanced LAN Pump lets you send files over the network with pause/restart options, automatic error recovery, even a queue for sending a list of files. Great for copying lots of data, particularly over WiFi networks, where the standard Windows copy function is just not robust enough to deal with intermittent network interference and failures.

serginh0, I agree with you- KillCopy is a great app! I wouldn't want it to be completely portable though. It attaches itself to the right click context menu which is its greatest asset. That allows it to NOT run in memory like the others on this site.
