  • 801KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 3 Aug 2008
  • Suggested by donald

FillDisk is a simple utility that fills up a disk with data. This is useful for testing a separate application's behavior when a disk is approaching full capacity or basic free space shredding when you don't have admin access (recommend checking "No OS optimization"). The program starts with 1GB files, then drops to 512MB, 256MB and so on until it completely fills up the disk.

FillDisk has a very simple interface: just enter a folder for the files to be created and press the "Go" button. You can stop the operation at any point in time and the file that is currently being written will close.

Would love to have something like this that accepts command line arguments, so I could set up hotkeys to control it with AutoHotKey.

I confirm that this link gives good portable version 2.4
http://www.lupopensuite.com/db/easyduplicatefinder.htm

I totally detest as thoroughly non-portable
www.winaddons.com/easy-duplicate-finder-241/
This insists upon adding its own Start Menu folder with 4 links from the system to itself,
and adds itself to "Programs and Features" as an item that can be uninstalled.
It may well use the registry - I just have not inspected that because what I have seen so far is horrendous.

Quick note: you need to edit "Timelist.dat" file found in "Data" folder if you need your .wav alarm file's path to be relative.

Westin on 2010-01-01 21:13

A cool little program, but doesn't hold a candle to some of the other scheduling tools here on the site. Shutter (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1569) is also elegant, simple, and a little easier to use. Wish it would allow for multiple timers to run simultaneously to help for example in food preparation.

Onesimus Prime on 2020-04-22 03:33

Program is no longer available from the developer's website, or even listed. Here is its page from the Internet Archive:
https://web.archive.org/web/20170331143143/http://waseo.de/index.php?cid=4&act=mn&mn=46&pg=0&lg=1

Unfortunately they didn't have the installer archived. I found a copy at http://www.softsea.com/review/ZeroTimer.html and both the installer and the extracted .exe checked out 100% fine. But I am not familiar with that software host, so use at your own risk--and by all means, double-check on VirusTotal for yourself!

All that said, I would agree with Westin that other timer programs are probably better options.

1Time can be used as a stopwatch, countdown timer, or alarm. You can configure it to beep or play any media file when the countdown reaches zero, or when the desired time is reached. When minimized to the taskbar, the title is dynamic and reflects the remaining time to go. You can use it to time hours spent on a project, be alerted at a specific time, remind you to take a break at regular intervals (by using the "repeat" function), etc.

There's a bug in the program: the timer seems to take its reference from the Windows clock and when passing midnight, the counter resets to 24:00:00-.

Switched to FreeWatch.

Quilan on 2012-02-29 09:43

Damn html tags.
I meant to write: "the counter resets to 24:00:00-{previous value}".

link to download and website appear dead?

smallhagrid on 2013-01-25 19:08

Lupo Pensuite has it - but there's no way to tell if it really can ONLY do file changes or not.
I have a single database file I update and use at home & work (because of my poor memory...), it is 50mb+, so if I've got to copy it whole it is a huge time-waster.
Has anyone here gotten this to just copy changes into the destination file ?!?
Thanks.

webfork on 2013-01-30 00:08

@smallhagrid: I don't know if this program has that functionality - I'd look to FreeFileSync http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1475 or Dsynchronize http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=719 here on the site.

A great speedy file manager. There are a couple of things that need to be added to make it really usable:
1) Make it open in the folder that was accessed when it was closed last,
2) Provide drag and drop.
Otherwise, it's the only file manager I have found that works when launched as Local System user.
I notice that the current version is 3 years old (2009).
