The download link (at 4 Aug 2014) leads to v1.3.4 rather than v1.8.3. On my system (Win7 Pro 32 bit), v1.8.3 seems unable to create new maps when needed.

FreeFileSync Portable v6.2

webfork on 27 Sep 2020
  • 9MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 5 Feb 2014
  • Suggested by bassiliin

FreeFileSync is a folder comparison and synchronization tool. It supports filters, file sizes greater than 4GB, delete-before-copy for large sync operations, and creation of batch files for automated synchronization. After compare process (by date or content) operations can be customized on a file-by-file basis.

FreeFileSync Portable is in PortableApps.com Format, automatically adjusting paths.

Notes:

  • The latest version of this program is adware (offers for installation of 3rd party software), may not be open source, and locks itself to a specific path (only the drive letter may change), but a more recent version of this program (v7.9) can be made portable. Note that the update check will run whenever the runtime path changes even if you disable it.
  • FreeFileSync versions 6.3 and later can not be run from a portable menu or scheduling software due to a unfixed bug in the app.

I liked this utility very much, but it stopped being portable to non-donors (being a donor in Brazil is complicated for many reasons). I looked for other similar utilities. Here I found fastcopy, I found it interesting. I had the happiness of finding SyncFolders, which is also portable. You can find it here http://www.syncfolders.elementfx.com. I think portablefreeware.com could add it here.

The 64 bit zip file is misnamed on the server. There is a space between 64 and .zip, so the functioning link will be http://tp.lc.ehu.es/anonym/win95/drcmp350-64 .zip (Or the author can correct the naming error)

Hi, I am a long time user of theWord (esword before that), and I also use MySword for Android apps. I would just like to say that there is a USB form of installation, and that can be done into a folder on any Windows computer. I have probably 25-30 different installations of theWord like this. I do development of modules for theWord, so I have different setups like this. This is TRULY "portable"!

Secondly I would like to say that some of the other portable software that I have used before has a lot of "down sides" to it. Most notably is that as Windows goes through generation of generation of operating systems, Windows itself has no loyalty to its own requirements and past operating systems. I once had all my IRS accounting in files in a portable program called Lucid. With time, I finally went back to look up something to find that the portable version of the software no longer works under recent Windows. AAAAAAH! All my records locked away forever!

theWord is being actively updated for each modern version of the Windows operating system.

On another note, some 10 years ago I got a cheap Toshiba laptop (I think I paid $20 for it), and it had a 286 processor on it. Okay, so it was a waste of time. No ports to speak of except a "modern" USB (at its birth I guess that may be true). It had like 640K of Ram, and something like 500MB of hard disk space. (I probably got ripped off really for $20).

But my point here is that I decided to put theWord portable to the test. I got a 4GB USB, yes it would read and write to it. Then I installed theWord portable version on it, and then copied bunches of modules (files in the format theWord uses) onto it. The I cranked it up. To my surpise, theWord worked flawlessly under those primitive conditions. The only real problem was doing searches (which the RAM restriction was the problem, not theWord). But with time, theWord worked perfectly on it.

If you want to know how robust this program is, try it on an old junker PC, and you will be surprised!

Please visit www.theWordbooks.com to download premium modules. ("30%OFF" code for 30% off until Dec 26, 2016).

Text 2 Folders creates folders based on list written in a text file. This contrasts the normal method for creating multiple folders, which is clicking "New Folder" repeatedly and then renaming the individual folders. Just create text document in Windows Notepad or other text program and save it, then run the program to generate folders. Separate folder names by putting them on a separate lines in the text file. For example a text file with the following text:

Documents
Pictures
Music
Video

... will create the directories Documents, Pictures, Music, and Video.

Occasionally, i use a procedure that ends up time consuming anyway:
1. search for desired file search app (usually, regex in filelocator lite).
2. select filenames in results.
3. "export" those filenames to clipboard.
4. paste into batch file, with appropriate text find&replace

¶MD»
and manual edits to create batch commands.
5. run batch

jaden on 2012-08-02 18:04

@granny Are you sure FreeCommander can do this? I know it can create nested folders separated with a slash, but how can it create peer folders? FreeCommander XE supports | to separate folders like TotalCommander, but plain FreeCommander doesn't.

PeerBlock v1.2 r693

PeerBlock filters Internet connections from addresses of organizations and corporations that may harm user privacy while using the Internet and P2P networks. The program also contains a "Block HTTP" feature for use with web browsers that blocks advertisements, sites associated with spyware, and more. PeerBlock is a fork of the popular but inactive PeerGuardian, adding features and fixes as well as Windows Vista/7/8 and 64-bit versions.

Alternatively, Peerblock Portable is stealth and automatically selects the proper Peerblock variant for the current PC.

What's new?
  • Port Allow List - The new "Port Settings" tab allows you to unblock ports (incoming and/or outgoing). This means that PeerBlock will not filter any connections from/to those ports. This can for example be used if you're running PeerBlock on a public FTP server, or if you want to ensure that outgoing SMTP mail communications are never blocked. Many thanks to night_stalker_z for his hard work on this feature!
  • First-run Update Message - When you first run PeerBlock after upgrading, you will see a notice explaining why lists are only updating once per week. Hopefully this will help to alleviate people's confusion about this.
  • Better Weekly List-Updating - We've made some improvements that should help ensure that free users continue to get their free weekly list-updates.
  • I-Blocklist Subscription Settings - To make it easier for you to configure PeerBlock to use an I-Blocklist Subscription, new I-Blocklist Username/PIN fields have been added to the bottom of the "Settings 1" tab.
  • Separate Settings Tabs - Instead of having one Settings tab with those silly "Next" and "Prev" buttons on it, we've broken that out into two separate "Settings 1" and "Settings 2" tabs.
  • Improved List-Update Error Handling - We've worked with I-Blocklist, who hosts the vast majority of the lists people use, to create improved error messaging for the various problems that may occur when updating lists. If something occurs during update-checking, the error message displayed should be much more meaningful.
  • Improved List-update Error Window - Should you hit any errors while updating your lists - 429 or otherwise - we will now pop up a more informative error window, along with a button you can click to jump straight to our site to check for more information.
  • Updated Error Windows - If you encounter a catastrophic error, the message that appears will now tell you to go visit peerblock.com/errors. This will redirect you to a forum-post on which the most common error-messages are displayed, to help you figure out what has gone wrong, and what can be done to fix it.
  • (Re)Load Previously Downloaded Lists - Previously, there was a problem where if you disabled and then re-enabled a list in the List Manager, that list wouldn't be reloaded until it successfully downloaded an update. Now, if it can't update that list it will still load the last version you did successfully download.
  • Removal of Windows 2000 Support - Windows 2000 is quite old by now, we hope that nobody's still running it; if you are, you can continue using the previous PeerBlock version. This release does support all Windows variants from Windows XP through to Windows 8.1, including server variants. (But not Windows RT.)
