XNote Timer is a simple countdown timer and stopwatch software. The program can use two modes: a count-up method to measure time intervals and count-down mode to work as an alarm. The alarm can launch any application or play audio files from a variety of formats (mp3, wav, midi, etc). The interface is a large, re-sizable view, ideal for either public presentations or a small icon.
Global hotkeys are available to start/stop/reset.
Note: The program can no longer be found on the original website, so I am redirecting the download link to CNet.

Excellent program. You can highlight a few important time zones but gives easy access if you want to check somewhere else on the map. Outstanding if you do a lot of international work and need to keep track of time in many different places across the globe. |

If you just want the recycle bin in the systray area on your main PC, then another way is to add it via quick launch. Right-click taskbar, toolbars, add ... %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch ... Unlock taskbar, untick show text/titles, tick large icons under view, lock taskbar. You can now drag items to this and they'll be added to the RB; right-click lets you empty it, and of course clicking it will open it. |

This one is good for blinky eye-candy on your DT. It works on Win 8, and you can customize the colors. Also, to remove the background you see when you first launch this clock, right click on the clock and go to Options > Appearance and put a check beside Form Invisible. |
WinRoll allows you to make a window "roll up" into its title bar by right-clicking on the title bar. You can also send a window to the back, make it stay on top, minimize, maximize or close all visible windows as well as minimize to the tray area. In Windows 2000 and above, you can even make a window translucent.

Writes settings to: | Windows registry. But given the nature of the application and the small number of parameters involved, I think it can be accepted as portable. |

A few minor, but annoying, bugs (at least on my machine with winXP):

I love this feature on my LXDE machine. I wish MS would do this and multiple desktops like on Linux. The copyright on this software is 2003-2004, obviously no longer supported. Although it IS buggy, the roll-up roll-down features work just the way I want, AND it works on my Win 8 machine as well.

Among other amenities, Pitaschio (http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2487, currently up to v2.26) provides "Minimize to tray" via right click on program's titlebar minimize button... |
Win-X-Move solves the issue of trying to target the pesky titlebar to move a window, or the even more elusive corners to resize it. The program allows you to move any window by dragging it from anywhere while pressing the ALT key, and resize a window by right-mouse-button-dragging it from anywhere while pressing the ALT key.

I like KDE Mover-Sizer more. It is written in autohotkey and you can change the code - for example, I added a shortcut for keeping the active window on top of the others.

Nice software. The only downside is they made it stupidly complicated to sync. And, as of this instant, I haven't figured out to have it sync automatically. Who wants to have to remember to sync????

When called from tray, "Notes Manager" took about 10 seconds to show up, this is awkward and frustrating. Overall the program does not behave well on Windows 8 x64. |

Very nice idea, but half-assed execution. Resizes windows that are not supposed to be resized, including tooltips, even when scrolling list boxes where tooltips appear for long lines, which partially leads to application crashes. |
