What's new?
  • Fixed bug (introduced in 0.3.30) that caused "Reconfigure" to put ORiNOCO cards into a state where they would report no access points.
  • Support for Atheros, Atmel, Intersil Prism2 based wireless cards. Improved support for Cisco cards.
  • Allow use of Serial Earthmate GPS. (USB Earthmate should already work using NMEA and serial driver)
  • If you scroll all the way to the right of the graph view, it will auto-scroll new data.
  • Fixed bug (introduced in 0.3.30) in graph view: corrupted display when scrolling.
  • Fixed bug in graph view: improper scroll bar tracking with large data sets.
  • If "Reconfigure" is on, the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration service will be stopped when you start scanning. It is restarted when the application exits.
  • If you connect to a network that supports DHCP, the IP subnet is reported.
  • If the access point is discovered in the ARP table, its IP address is reported.
  • While you are scanning, the system will be prevented from going into standby unless power is critically low.
  • Large files load several times faster than before (though the really large ones still don't load fast enough).
  • A whole lot of new Scripting features.

NetStumbler v0.4.0 (rel 21-APR-2004),

the granddaddy of all wifi home network analyzers,
still working fine since first released way back in 2002, thank you,
yet possibly superseded nowadays by younger generation tools such as Homedale :

Quick note for saying that, in case of 64-bit Windows 7, if present all the afore mentioned files (nsndis5.sys, nsndis50.dll, mfc71.dll and msvcr71.dll) will be located at '%WINDIR%\SysWOW64'.

Registry entries might be found under 'HKLM\Software\Bogosoft\', 'HKCU\Software\Bogosoft\', 'HKCR\.ns1', and 'HKCR\NetStumbler.Document'.

Plus, NetStumbler requires administrative privileges.

Granted all of the above !

More reasons for the SRVP crowd (Society for Registry Virginity Preservation),
Yours truly included, to embrace Homedale instead... ;-)

SharpControl v1.1

Risen from the tomb after many years in "Private" limbo...;-)

Amazingly good utility for tweaking assorted sharpening parameters values
(Radius | Intensity | Control | Edge) with instant preview feedback.

Let you save successive experimental parameters iterations for ulterior image evaluation.

Oldie but goodie...;-)

This program worked first time (Windows 7 64bit). A small sized application, compared to some of the others on Portable Freeware, I found that it has the essential functions that are required to find and download videos.
Choice of available download quality.
User can set (try right click on the download directory shown in blue).
Quick download of videos in the queued list.

YoutubePal v3.4 (released SEP-2016) is broken for recent Youtube videos.

Attempts to download recent videos invariably fails with error message
"Could not parse the Youtube page for URL
- May be due to change of Youtube page structure"

YTP's Author Ravi Bhvnani is aware of the issue, which should be rectified
in next release, tentatively scheduled for February.

The program can extract text from any kind of file and display plain ASCII text, Unicode (double byte ANSI) text, as well as Resource strings. Additional useful information for each item is included in the "Advanced" mode. Uniquely, the program will show both the file offset and the memory offset of each string found.

Although primarily targeted for programmers, it can be used by anyone interested in ferreting out character strings buried within binary files.

Note: Although updated versions of the program exist, the 3.00 version is listed for reasons described in forums.

BinText at your finger_tip: (WinXP tested)

Place a shortcut to Bintext in your Windows SendTo folder so that you can quickly send files to BinText by right-clicking on their names and choosing Send To -> BinText from the drop-down menu.

You can set this up by right-clicking on bintext.exe, selecting Copy then open up your WindowsSendTo folder, right click the mouse and select Paste Shortcut

As an added bonus, files get automatically loaded in BinText "Advanced view" mode, no need even for clicking the GO button...;-)

Simple Duplicate Finder v1.2.0.3

webfork on 13 Jan 2019
  • 117KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 1 Dec 2011
  • Suggested by ancientimages

Simple Duplicate Finder helps track down similar files either to delete extras and save space or to compare versions. While most duplicate-searching programs are looking for exact copies, SDF uses a Percentage Search, allowing you to adjust the percentage difference required for a file to be considered a duplicate. Once scanned, the program will display the number of bytes which differ as well as the specific percentage match between files.

This is useful for example with metadata: when Windows Image Import tool downloads pictures from your digital camera, additional XML data is inserted into the images and video files, including a timestamp of when the image was downloaded to the computer. Although the image is identical in every way to its original, the file will appear as unique. SDF can detect these files and help remove them.

I cannot open the .hlp file. Any suggestions?

__philippe on 2017-10-09 21:25

@Provy

TextDiff.hlp is a windows 3.x Help file. Under Win XP, Explorer will open it just fine.

Under Win7, however, Explorer will barf about an unsupported old file format,
but does suggest to download some sort of conversion utility.

Alternatively, TextDiff.hlp file contents could be converted (under winXP) to a PDF document.
PM me with your email if you want it.

The required winhlp32.exe to read the TextDiff.hlp file is available in three different versions (Win XP, 7 and 10) from https://archive.org/details/microsoft_help_viewer_hlp.

ip2c v1.0.25

Andrew Lee on 25 Nov 2021
  • 1MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by I am Baas

ip2c (IP address to country) helps determine the country associated with a specific address by querying the five main WHOIS servers responsible for major world regions. The program tries to establish the most authoritative location for the IP specified and then return the country's two-letter TLD, the extended country name, its world region, and a description of the organization managing IP (when available).

The program can also process a list of IPs stored in a comma delimited file and generate a new file with the country fields added to it. The program is fast, multi-threaded, and queries all the servers in parallel to speed up the overall response time.
