H2testw allows you to test storage devices for one of a variety of possible defects or errors. It is particularly useful for detecting mislabeled / fake flash memory devices, looking at the actual versus reported capacity.
Note that the author recommends backing up the content on the device before running H2testw.

@moronoxyd I agree
I found that
it Write-Tests to Free space only
so no file data will be lost or overwritten
a useful utility for finding the best SD card for the job
v1.4
good program!
V1.4
The tool does *not* delete anything that's on the target device. It only tests the free space.
The page is in german, the program lets you choose between german and english though (obvious in the screenshot) ;)
The DL link only points to a German version. Does it exist an English one? Couldn't find it!
@moronoxyd @NickR
The tool only writes to space the drive shows as free. On a fake SD card that's likely not going to be the same thing as the actual free space. If a fake card reports a larger free space and the tests continue to write to flash, some fakes wrap it back around so newer files overwrite the beginning of the space so the newest files will be most likely to still work.
Unless you're testing known good SD cards it's very important to backup anything on the card you're not willing to lose permanently.
