@donald,

Nice interface and small size. Doesn't have a spell checker though and sometimes fails to save in the doc format; docx doesn't work at all. Check your work, it's possible to lose everything when this happens.

FYI: Avast wants to run Q-jot in it's (imho increasingly annoying) sandbox. virustotal.com says it's all cool, only ClamAV reports it as a PUA, Possibly Unwanted App. It's packed with ASPack, which adds some reverse-engineering protection. I've used q-jot for almost 2 years now without any troubles and only recently it started triggering alerts. It's the packer (ASPack) used that triggers the alert, as it 'kinda obfuscates' the internal code.
It's a false positive, PUA's can be potentially malicious but if you're familiar with the app, like with Q-jot, such alerts can be ignored. Keyword here is 'Possibly'.

@donald: File-corruption has happened but not often. And if Word can't open them, Q-jot never failed on me in those moments and I just save it as .rtf then, I can always convert at work. No problems with the open dialog either.

@pelotti & webfork: Abiword (www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=493) includes a filter to import WordPerfect files, and, imho, is more suitable than LO Writer as a WordPad replacement.

When preparing to save files the drop down options include:
Rich Text Format (*.rtf)
Plain text (*.txt)
HTML Document (*.htm;*.html;*.htx)
Word 2007 Macro-enabled Document (*.docm)
Word 97-2002 &6.0/95 - RTF (*.doc)
Works 6.0 & 7.0 (*.wps)
Word 2007 Document (*.docx)
Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)

Similarly when trying to open a file the drop down options include:
Rich Text Format (*.rtf)
Plain text (*.txt)
HTML Document (*.htm;*.html;*.htx; *.otm)
Word 2007 Macro-enabled Document (*.docm)
Word 97-2002 (*.doc)
Works 6.0 & 7.0 (*.wps)
Recover Text from Any File (*.*)
Word 2007 Document (*.docx)
Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)
WordPerfect 6x (*.doc; *.wpd)
WordPerfect 5x (*.doc)

These settings seem to work for me, is anyone encountering a problem with the resulting files from the save dialog, such as word refusing to open them, or corruption??

Has anyone had any trouble using the Open dialog to open files and display them ??

pelotti: WordPerfect files are not common and filters to import them are not common -- you should try LibreOffice (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2055). tikbalang: not sure what's wrong -- I've tested this program on multiple xp-sp3 systems without issue.

it didn't run at all on my winxp/sp3.
