Tried it out, but was not impressed. Already had another free program called "Instant Photo Sketch" and its by far much better than this.

If you care to see the Instant Photo Sketch, its here http://www.snapfiles.com/get/iphotosketch.html

guinness on 2012-02-22 21:04

@Loner, the application you suggested isn't Portable! If you have a suggestion please post in the correct thread.

David Dollevoet on 2012-02-25 16:37

Tried it out and was disappointed. Better than many sketch programs, but still not satisfactory.
Thanks to Loner for recommending "Instant Photo Sketch". It is not portable, but it is by far the best sketch program in my experience.

I am unsure if all would consider it portable, but this application is no longer stealth. The following folder/file are created each time the application is run:

c:\Documents and Settings\$UserName$\Application Data\Bitdreamers\Quick Checksum Verifier\config\global.xml

The last version I have (v1.1.5.13) does not do this.

I only tested the 32-bit version on Windows XP SP3 using Total Uninstall v2.35 (last freeware version of that tool)

lautrepay on 2011-10-29 04:27

@DavesNotHere: After the extraction of the installer, you have to create a file named "portable" or "portable.txt" in the app folder.

DavesNotHere on 2011-10-30 08:57

I created the zero-byte file "portable" in the app folder and voila! It is portable and stealth. Thanks! I don't know how I missed that step.

Thank you for this.
Works well, love the simplicity, straight-forward design/usage.
I was using another Hash utility that integrated into the Properties Sheet but decided against it this time around because i just don't use it that often.

Great job author.

WinSplit Revolution v11.04

WinSplit Revolution allows you to easily organize windows by tiling, resizing and positioning them to make the best use of your desktop real estate. The program is especially useful for larger resolution screens by helping you efficiently manage multiple active windows. The program allows users to move windows and have them snap into pre-defined areas such as 1/2 or 1/4 of the screen using simple keyboard hotkeys.

Functional on 64-bit.

What's new? 12/04/2011 v11.04
  • Bug Fix : The settings (including the VirtualNumpad position and style) were not saved when WinSplit was closed by the end of the user's session.
  • Improvement : The installer and uninstaller language will now be set automatically, regarding the system's language. The registry keys created by the previous installers has been removed, so the "portable mode" won't touch anything in the registry.
  • Bug Fix : The update and/or uninstall process fails because of a dll file that can't be replaced. People will probably still encounter problems to update to this release. If so, there is now a "Cleanup Tool" available in the download page.
  • Bug Fix : The message "Impossible to install hooks" was often shown at WinSplit startup, and the checkbox saying "Do not display this message anymore" wasn't working as expected

03/14/2011 v 11.03

  • Bug Fix : The VirtualNumpad position was not correctly saved in some cases.
  • Bug Fix : A message was shown (Problem to enumerate all screens) and the "Send to left/right screen" action cancelled if some "invisible mirrored monitors" are installed. Now, only real monitors are taken into account.
  • Bug Fix : When launched at Windows startup, messages for communication between the hook system and the main application could not be delivered "in time", so WinSplit thought that there was a problem and was displaying an error message.
  • New translations : russian
  • Bug Fix : The screenshots folder could not be created under Windows 7 (and probably under windows Vista)
  • New : the errors messages saying that hooks were impossible to install can now be desactivated
  • Bug fix : the automatic update process could not be launched because of UAC : you'll still have to do the next update manually on some system (Windows Vista and 7)
  • Bug fix : the Drag'n'Go functionnality was started even if the corresponding option was unchecked

this tiny program rocks!
this is one of those little programs that you just 'install' them and start using them without being aware they are there,
I'm constantly moving my windows to left or right just as often as I do min and max them,
and its just ctl-alt-left, ctl-alt-right, so easy

@Scott, you are comparing apples and pencils

Kranor on 2011-04-14 08:14

Although the method of creating a predefined area is very good, I prefer the usability of Gridmove (mainly the mouse control with trigger locations) I think that either the author of winsplit needs to try adding mouse control, like gridmove, or the author of gridmove needs to make the creation of grids simpler, like winsplit.

If the icon disappears (this *occasionally* happens when Explorer acts up in Win7x64) don't run Task Manager and End Task. Your hidden windows will not return. The trick is to RE-RUN Minime and, when prompted, click "OK".

Pax on 2010-12-23 12:56

Haven't run the application yet but it looks like a good addition. Love the documentation on the site where the author details *exactly* what's cleaned out. It's rare to see that level of documentation and it's appreciated.

Looking over the site, this app also has a ridiculously easy to use plug-in system which the author hopes will spur user contributions and increase the number of apps and registry entries covered.

This one looks like one to keep an eye on.

FileVerifier++ v0.6.3.5830

billon on 14 Jul 2016
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 22 May 2010
  • Suggested by I am Baas

FileVerifier++ checks and compares files to see if they have been modified. Supports drag-and-drop, recursive directory processing, patterns, color coding, export to a variety of hashing formats (.sfv, .md5, .csv, etc.) and more. Can use any of 21 different hashing algorithms such as CRC16 for speed and SHA-512 for security (uses the standard MD5 by default).

The program (ZIP version) will automatically ask to create verification files with relative pathways, which is much more portable.

Win2K users should use an earlier version. A beta 64-bit version is available.

Category:
Runs on:Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder

How to extract: Download the ZIP package (fv-X.X.XXXX.zip) and extract to a folder of your choice. Delete files fvshell.dll, winfvc.exe; fvc.exe, fvc-batch.cmd, fvc-batch.js. Launch fv.exe.
Similar/alternative apps: MultiHasher
What's new? Applied:
  • A workaround for a condition causing a brief delay in the program exit on certain systems.
Fixed:
  • A situation where the program would crash upon recalculating or verifying a list where a significant number of files are skipped initially.
  • A situation where the program will crash upon writing lists with entries with dates prior to 1/1/1970. Any dates prior to this will be set to 1/1/1970. This restriction will be lifted in future versions.

A little intimidating at first, but so far looks like the best file verification tool I've tried yet. Fast, recursive directory verify, open source, relative pathways, and multiple different verification methods? Dream come true for making sure your data hasn't changed or corrupted. Recommend MD5 for general file verification and SHA 256 for security verifications.

FV++ Author on 2011-04-28 21:10

There is a version of FV++ that works with Windows 2000. The version is v0.6.4.6010 (it is under fileverifier-testing). While several of the icons do not render properly under Win2K, it is functional.

Also, there is no functional difference between the installed version and the ZIP version, at least in terms of the program itself. The executables are identical. What makes a FV++ installation portable is the presence of the fv.cfg file in the installation directory. There are no differences besides this and the lack of an installer.
