This is not stealth, it creates a folder in %Profile%>AppData>Roaming called "ATViewer".

Now it's V5.5.4 !

The website announces a V5.5.4, but both (the installer and the portable) version are V5.5.3 !

@site admin, can you makes comments also display the program version right next to the date the comment was posted e.g.

User: "blah blah blah" [version 1.0] [2011-01-01]

The new v5.5.2 is a web installer only (i.e. internet connection required to install it). No portable version as infimum states. The Universal Viewer author states here:

that a new product has replaced it, but comments further down the page show that the installer for that new product installs a few things you probably don't want installed, with no way to stop them being installed in the first place. And now Universal Viewer gets a web installer. Mighty big coincidence there.

The zip package is no longer available. It's still possible to make it portable, but a lot of hassle. I am too lazy to update ;-)

Universal viewer software misleading install.After installing you become aware that you need to register/buy the some other bit of the software

Pretty useless. Doesn't open unknown file types by sensing the the data within as I had hoped. Oh well.

Lister is available as an freeware external viewer. Completely portable.

Unicode path names don't seem to be supported in graphics no matter how you configure graphics.

If all you need is an app that can open huge files instantly, try LTFViewer:

Universal Viewer seems like single app, that can open 4Gbyte file instantly. Oh, also Total Commander can do this, but it is shareware... I may miss some other viewers though...

It is good enough for a free and portable application. It seems to use existing installed file for pdf and word. Hope similar viewer which doesn't need pre-installed programs. I like the idea of universal viewer any way

@Rarst... you are right. Try to use it as lister in Free Coomander as you use it in TC.

Universal Viewer is not really standalone program, it is much better as lister (built-in viewer) replacement for Total Commander file manager. Being able to work on it's own is secondary for this program.

and i like this webpage, can post comments without having to register etc. thank you very much. i thnk i spent one whole day looking for just this type of viewer, simple, and can do graphics too. all that i need-just a simple right-click text and jpeg viewer

i like it a lot. windows xp doesn't have the old quickview, all we want is a right-click one which will save us time....

I must say that I don't quite see the point in this. I like the idea of having a one-viewer-fits-all solution for various file types. However, it apparently opens .doc-files using MS Word, pdfs using Acrobat Reader... This isn't any faster than using the associated programs in the first place. I also prefer Foxit and Sumatra PDF to Acrobat Reader, although it's not any more as slow as it used to be. With Word files, there's even a Windows security alert asking me if I want to open the "potentially dangerous" file "from the internet"... :o

How is this a multi viewer?
It seems to open my .doc in word my .pdf in foxit is this any good at opening binary files on a system that doesn't have a reader installed?

really good at opening big files. too bad you can't edit them.

extremally usefull, no problem while opening Large files >30MB

sounds neat. Though..from browsing the authors' site, it seems to rely on "Plugins"...unless only for PDF viewing? hmm. Think it's easier just to pack Portable AbiWord/OOo + FoxIt PDF Reader ;) But that's just me.

Also, FYI, microsoft has some "viewer" apps available too, from microsoft.com, I remember using a PowerPoint Viewer app years ago from there.

Single function app incorporated in most filemanagers. No need.
