uh, Pikadude, FreeCommander can be uninstalled. Shows up in the control panel and has an uninstall routine. Beware of Alt Commander. Do not trust a program that does not offer uninstall or document what was done in the installation process.

Uh, Jon? *None* of the programs listed on this site can be uninstalled; you just delete them when you don't want them any more.

I am pretty ticked off at this program. I installed it, and did not like it at all. Tried to UNinstall it, and very tough. It's not on the Windows menu, no where in the XP add / remove control panel. I am using Norton, which will hopefully uninstall all of it from the registry.

Until there is an easy way to uninstall this program, absolutely beware.

The only problem with Total Commander is that it isn't FREE Commander. I have been using FreeCommander for quite a long time and couldn't be without it

As Eichan says, all of the commander series of explorer replacements were based on Norton commander.

I like this version, it's not as rich in extras as some but it's tiny and seems to do its job well.

I'm gonna be using this on my tiny mem card that I use but for general I'm sticking with Free Commander.
For an extra MB it has all the features I want.

I've tried Total Commander for a while, to me it's really not much better, if any, than free commander.

If you haven't already paid for it I recommend free Com first but this is a decent choice if you're strapped for room

Thanks for the link Eichan. Lots of interesting information!

Whouldn't get too upset about this program being a 'rip-off' of Total Commander, since it is itself is a 'rip-off' of the original Norton Commander. It is however amongst the best of the windows clones currently available although there are quite a few well written freeware ones - all power to anyone else who want to make a better one :) For more info to alternatives:

Most of the machines of this days are not fast enough to run big apps, like FF PE, via a usb stick smoothly for long time!
Most of the time I'm using Pocket K-Meleon which is great, very light and fast.

Hmmm, after reading my own post maybe I should add that like michauko, I've paid for the full version of Total Commander!

Yes, it's a complete rip-off of the Total Commander interface but it lacks many of Total Commander's features (e.g. the support for plugins).

On the website it says "Free for commercial or non-commercial use" but I'm not sure I understand the "Business Case" here since I fail to see why anyone would want to pay to use a crippled clone of the "real thing" (which isn't very expensive to start with).

In addition, you can easily configure Total Commander to be completely portable so Alt Commander doesn't have an advantage there either.

Finally, if you're equipped with a *flexible* conscience you can also use Total Commander with all it's functionality for free, assuming that you can stand to click on the nag-screen at start up.
