Calcute is an unobstrusive scientific tape calculator. Calcute lets you enter complete expressions as if you were using a regular text editor. You can see what you are doing so you can easily make corrections. Type what you want to calculate, press Enter to get the answer. The calculator keypad can remain hidden or it can be shown if you prefer to click buttons with the mouse instead of typing.

ESBCalc (free portable persion) is a good free alternative in my opinion.

Every other device (Android, iOS, Mac, etc.) that doesn't have this format calculator just drives me crazy. Writing out the whole problem before calculating is so much better than a single window, single-output view.

Fun, fun, fun. 2008-02-21 18:02

Cool program, ugly though. In case you haven't figured out (it took me a while), the textured bar to the left of the text area is what you grab to move the window.

Not just for those with unusual math needs, this allows you to print out all your numbers and make doubly sure there were no mis-types before (and after) you hit enter. A PC calculator that lets you work out a eliminates second-guessing and makes all other calculators seem cumbersome. Calcute is similar to the essential EasyCalc (http://easycalc.sourceforge.net) program for Palm.
