Simple Family Tree enables you to create and view a family tree. It is able to display ancestors and descendants of any selected individual. It reads and writes files in the Gedcom (GED) format. You can enter notes, events, a second name, and marriage details for each individual.

Downloaded version is 1.31 This version installs ijl15.dll in windows/system32 To run on a USB drive, copy the dll to the program diretory on usb drive.

This program works great. Since I can't get Family Tree Maker ver16 to work as a standalone on my USB drive this is great for my trips when I visit relatives. I have over 700 people entered into my Family Tree Maker file and this program supports all the entries easily and very fast.

Sometimes it doesn't let me link a descendant if I still don't have "married" the person I want to link, so I have to do stuff in the precise order... annoying!
More over, If I create an individual, when I want to link to that individual, sometimes it creates a new entry with the same name...

For true portability, install, copy the exe and DLL to the USB stick, then uninstall - registry entries are only there to facilitate uninstall, according to the author.

Latest Version 1.26 seems to have an installer, and creates a couple of registry entries. Doesn't seem to be too major, but people should be aware...
I tried writing in Arabic and it saved fine. Why is it written to not support unicode?
