DriveSort v1.242

billon on 16 Sep 2018
  • 198KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 15 Sep 2018
  • Suggested by MarkB / tls

DriveSort directly reads directory tables of FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 formatted volumes, allowing users to view file listings in the order they were written.

Recent operating systems re-sort file lists before display, either by name, by size, or by whatever the user chooses. However, the firmware of playing devices -- like small MP3 players, for example -- sometimes behaves differently, mostly because they lack necessary resources (CPU, memory), a problem developers usually solve by dis/playing files in the order they are written on the storage medium -- normally, the order they were added.

Additionally, DriveSort is able to change that ordering, making itself useful for re-arranging movies, series episodes, audio or picture files on FATx formatted media; afterwards, players will be able to reproduce files in the expected sequence.

@Midas could you kindly add "sort pictures for vacation slide shows on tv"

@Anerty sent email for suggestion on google search terms for search engine optimization.

tls on 2014-06-24 11:01

as the author has said
"...this tool requires admin rights since it interacts with the sorted disk partition"
if you get an "access denied" error
then it means that another program is accessing your usb
you could probably use unlocker to determine what other program is accessing your usb

best practice:
i would NOT use this on my 500gb external HD
unless i'm darned sure i can restore it's contents
i only use this on my 32 gb usb's (containing copies of my video files)
while my original files stay safe on my 500gb external HD

@Midas thanks for the changes :)

From http://lenmus.blogspot.com.es/2014/07/lenmus-reaches-its-end.html:

"It is with my deepest regret that I have to announce the closure of the LenMus project. After a decade-long run, LenMus is no longer being developed. I began LenMus because I was studying music theory and needed interactive exercises for practicing. At that time (2002) there were no much free software for musicians and music students and I programmed some exercises, especially for ear training. I was soon attracted by the computational problems derived from the complexity of this domain. But world changes very fast and I alone can not do all and move as fast as this requires. I always failed in attracting more developers to the project and the result is that LenMus is increasingly lagging behind the increasing complexity of the project and the fast pace of changes on computers (notebooks, mobile phones), the web (HTML5 interactive applications), and the available teaching materials on the web (videos, free web schools). As I can not do it all alone, all development was stopped five months ago. Probably I will not to resume development again."

RolloSONIC v1.1.2

Midas on 10 Feb 2021
  • 4MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 22 Jun 2014
  • Suggested by RolloSONIC

RolloSONIC is a modular sound-synthesis environment with mouse-guided tweaking and real-time module interconnection. Automated control channel duplexing, a variable-bandwidth control pipe, and multi-device euphony support various possibilities. Like the great module racks historically used in making sound effects for science-fiction movies, RolloSONIC lets you add and connect audio-processing modules together, where the sound is playing the entire time so that changes to the interconnections and changes to the sliders are heard immediately -- just like with the real thing.

The program takes the idea to the next level by letting you incorporate your mouse movement into the control channels. Optionally, you can also incorporate your USB or MIDI (musical) keyboard controller and its knobs and sliders into the mix of control data.

The existing introduction video is highly recommended.

Raindrop v0.9.4

webfork on 19 Feb 2019
  • 20MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

Raindrop produces natural ambient sounds along with some special stimulating sounds for deep relaxation, sleep induction and perceived noise suppression. It is bundled with a series of highly realistic sound sets (tropical rain, birds etc.), meditation loops (mantra chants, instrumental vibrations etc.) and a binaural beats generator.

Binaural beats are perceptive illusions that happen when your ears receive two slightly different sine waves and your brain erroneously "reconstructs" the signal as a "beat" (hence the name). Depending on its frequency (which is given by the difference of the two sine waves) the binaural beat can effectively change the alertness state of your brain, thus inducing fast reactions (high frequencies), mild relaxation (medium frequencies) or deep sleep (low frequencies).
