WizMouse v1.7.0.3

webfork on 15 Jul 2023
  • 742KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 23 Aug 2013
  • Suggested by antibody

WizMouse is a lightweight program that lets your mouse wheel scroll the window under the pointer, even if the window doesn't have input focus. Normal behavior requires clicking on a window to activate it before you can scroll it with your mouse wheel.

The program can optionally enable the mouse wheel in applications that don't support it by converting mouse wheel messages to scroll bar messages.

Other options include "reverse mouse scrolling" (like "natural scrolling" on Mac OS X Lion), and bringing the scrolling window to the foreground.

  • This version updates the reverse mouse scrolling option to behave in a more similar way to Mac OS "natural" scrolling (the wheel direction is no longer reversed when the control key is held down).

Very useful application for those versed with the iPhone shortcut as suggested by the developer. For those who are not so familiar, it will be provide less typing than ordinarily supplying a period, space and a capital. Works well across MS Office applications, notepad apps (Notepad, Notepad++, etc), graphic apps like Paint.NET, Fotografix etc.

Rejjy13 on 2013-06-05 14:52

This is a good idea. I have incorporated it in my computer through an AHK script.

Space::DoubleTap("{BS}. ")

DoubleTap(key) {
If (A_ThisHotkey==A_PriorHotkey && A_TimeSincePriorHotkey < 250)
Send %key%
else
Send {%A_ThisHotkey%}
return
}

Minor but extremely useful interface enhancement -- probably a keeper. Thanks.

two on 2012-04-05 19:30

Very nice idea, but half-assed execution. Resizes windows that are not supposed to be resized, including tooltips, even when scrolling list boxes where tooltips appear for long lines, which partially leads to application crashes.

ActiveHotkeys v1.3.1 build 16

billon on 21 Oct 2019

ActiveHotkeys detects what global keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys) are currently registered on the computer by various applications. This helps you determine which hotkeys are in use, and which are still available.

Note: Functional only in 32-bit. Additionally, the inability to detect which application has registered a particular shortcut is an issue with Windows and not ActiveHotKeys.

It certainly got a lot of press as an impressive tool but I was unable to test it.

There's a "laptop mode" on this one that doesn't use the numpad but it still refuses to use anything except the F10 through F12 keys and those are currently mapped to something else.

KeyTweak v2.3.0

webfork on 10 Jan 2021
  • 454KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 8 Mar 2018
  • Suggested by kwhitefoot

KeyTweak is a simple utility that allows users to redefine their keyboard input signals by modifying the Windows registry. It can revert your layout to the default settings as well as warn you of some potentially dangerous modifications before they are put into effect.

Possible uses for this program (from the author): "Maybe you have an old keyboard and you really miss having a "Windows" key. Maybe you are used to using a different keyboard and you keep hitting the wrong key. Maybe you know that you are going to be doing a lot of numerical data entry and would like to change your Num Pad + key into a Tab key for a little while. How about changing Scroll Lock into a Mute button?"

Category:
Runs on:WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Windows registry. Due to the nature of the program and the reason for the registry entries we are accepting KeyTweak as portable.
Dependencies: Elevated privileges are required on Vista and Win7.
Stealth: ? No. Information is written to HKLM\SOFTWARE\KeyTweak as a necessary part of KeyTweak's backup function.
Unicode support: No
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the installer and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch KeyTweak.exe.

Have been using this little app for years. Works under Win 8 as well as long as it's launched with 'Run as administrator'.

For some reason it doesn't display the keys in the same order as they appear on my actual keyboard, however the keys are still easy to remap.
